Rationale for Enquiry Focus Songs can be used with primary and secondary pupils to help them to remember new words and phrases. I want to find out how effectively my own learners retain their Mandarin when I use songs in my teaching. Rationale: Refer to learner motivation in language learning, refer to different pedagogical approaches you have researched. Are there differences between how effective songs are in primary and secondary learning?
Success Criteria for me ….if the enquiry is as productive as I hope it might be: what will I know/ understand / have seen/heard/be able to evidence differently?
  1. I will know more about the impact of teaching Mandarin through song to both primary pupils and secondary pupils?
  2. I will know more about what stage is best for teaching Chinese songs in the process of Mandarin learning?
  3. I will be aware of the suitability of different songs for different levels of pupils?

Success Criteria for children/staff ….if the enquiry is as productive as I hope it might be:
  1. I will be able to evidence any impact upon tones and pronunciation
  2. I will have evidence of learning through songs in Chinese?
