Project Description

Describe the project you plan to do.

At Christ the King Convent (Indian Head Road, Commack, NY 11725) they have a stockade fence that separates the convent’s yard from the Holy Family Regional School’s parking lot. This fence is old and broken down. The Convent yard is used by the Nuns. What I will be doing for my Eagle Scout project is taking down the existing fence and putting up a new fence Spruce stockade fence. The amount of fencing will be 138 feet, I would build a new gate, and clean the yard.
This is also a safety issue for the school and the aftercare program. The parking lot is where the children (K thru 8) play at recess and after school. The teachers are in fear of the children getting hurt, so they are told to stay away. This makes the teacher’s job a harder because they have to make sure the children stay away.

What group will benefit from the project?

Convent at Christ the King Church

Name of religious institution, school, or community Telephone No.

111 Cowie Rd, Commack NY 11725

Street address City State Zip code

My project will be of benefit to the group because:

My project will benefit the Nun’s at Christ the King Convent and Holy Family Regional School. The Nun’s yard will be private, and the school will benefit by having a safer place for the children to play.

PROJECT DETAILS

Plan your work by describing the present condition, the method, materials to be used, project helpers, and a time schedule for carrying out the project. Describe any safety hazards you might face, and explain how you will ensure the safety of those carrying out the project.

If appropriate, include photographs of the area before you begin your project. Providing before-and-after photographs of your project area can give a clear example of your effort.

PRESENT CONDITION

The present condition of the fence is broken down, sections are missing, and most of the fence still standing is rotted. The gate is missing and the yard is a mess that is littered with roofing shingles, and rotted wood.

METHOD

1)  FUNDRAISERS

The cost of this project will run approximately $950.00. I plan to have a garage sale and hope to bring in $500. I have attached a spreadsheet for items to be sold at the garage sale. My troop, friends, and family members, under my supervision, will collect recyclables. They will distribute flyers around their neighborhoods. My father, mother, uncle, and cousins will distribute flyers at their places of business. I have organized friends to meet on weekends to collect discarded recyclables at ball fields. I hope to raise $450 in returns.

HELPERS/WORKERS

The work that will be done will be handled by troop members, adult leaders, friends and family. Each step of this project has been written down along with the procedures. I have also developed a spreadsheet with the number of workers I will need and the procedures they will follow. The leaders will be selected as I go to handle each phase of the project and also will be selected according to what work needs to be done. If power tools are to be used, I will have an adult supervising that task. I will explain to my volunteers each step of the job and what is expected of them as we start each phase. I will have a station set up for First Aid to be handled by Mr. Autz. Mr. Autz is a retired NYC Fireman and is trained in all aspects of first aid.
