MEMORANDUM FOR: All Concerned
SUBJECT: Nineteenth Annual Vernon Classic Drill Meet – 23 February 2013
1. The Vernon Classic Drill Meet will consist of Armed and Unarmed Inspection, Exhibition, Regulation, and Color Guard. Additional events are: Cadet Challenge and Pellet Teams. Our Pellet Match will be postal. Teams entering the postal match must submit their fired targets for scoring NLT 11 February. The top five teams must shoot SHOULDER TO SHOULDER at Leesville High School to determine the final four places. These teams must bring their own pellet rifles and equipment.
2. Please return the entry form and fees no later than 4 February 2013. Requests for cancellation prior to 14 February will be honored and all fees promptly refunded. The maximum total fee for two (2) teams in each event is $200.00.
3. GENERAL INFORMATION:
a. Dressing facilities will be available at the school.
b. Refreshments: Our snack bar will have Bar-B-Q sandwiches, hot dogs, and snacks. A hospitality room will be available to team coaches and chaperons.
c. No pyrotechnics, blanks, bayonets or music will be permitted during any part of the meet.
d. All members of Armed Drill Teams will carry a “demilitarized” weapon. The weapon must weigh a minimum of 8 ½ lbs. The team commander must carry a “demilitarized” rifle, saber or sword. Facsimile parade rifles are not authorized because they weigh less than 8 ½ lbs.
e. Upon arrival, schools must report to the Information Booth located at the main gym lobby in order to pick up score sheets.
f. Schools may report directly to competition sites when ready. Teams reporting after 1400 will be allowed to compete; however, they will not be eligible for trophies.
g. We will have “knock-out” drill at the end of the competition. Tickets will be sold for $1.00 in the concession area.
h. The awards ceremony will be held at approximately 3:00 p.m.
i. The school’s SAI or Certified Marksmanship Instructor must certify that each Rifle Team member has scored 100% on the Marksmanship Safety Examination.
4. Awards:
a. Inspection, Exhibition, Regulation, and Color Guard: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.
b. Cadet Challenge: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Additionally, high male and female in
each event.
c. Obstacle Course: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Additionally, high male and female.
d. Rifle Team: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Additionally, high individual for Standing, Kneeling, and Prone.
5. Overall Trophy: This will be awarded to the school that achieves the highest overall score. The final score for the overall championship will consist of scores from the following: Inspection, Exhibition, Regulation, Color Guard, and Cadet Challenge. 100 points will be awarded to third place, 200 points to second place, and 300 points to first place. Schools may enter more than one team in any category; however, only the team with the highest score will count toward the overall trophy. The total combined scores from the drill team categories will be used to break any ties.
