Address: 42 Omar Street, Woodridge

On 17th of November Tyron Ryan appeared before Your Honour at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court and pleaded GUILTY in relation to the following offence/s:

3 x Breach of Domestic Violence Order

On this date the matter was adjourned to the 08th of December 2015.

This report was written by the Logan Indigenous Community Justice Coordinator, JOSHUA STEDMAN, and compiled by the following source/s of information:

Personal Interview with Tyron Ryan.

Tyron Ryan is a 31 year old father to his daughter Sierra who is 9 years old. However he is also dependant of 3 other children to his partner of 8 years Cynthia Wigell.

Tyron’s has family backgrounds from the Mumbra clan ß(NAME OF CLAN) in Townsvilleß(REGION) from his Grandmother’s side and the Meriemß(TRIBE) people of the Torres Strait Islands from his Grandfather’s side. Tyron is a proud descendant of Eddie Mabo who was the key plaintiff in the High Court of Australia in the lands right case also referred to as the ‘Mabo Case’.

Tyron Ryan had recently been sub-contracted by Logan City Council (LCC). However he has lost this job due to being detained from Friday the 6th of November 2015 to the 9th of November 2015 at the Beenleigh Watch House. He did explain this to the LCC and begged for his job however he was absent during a long weekends work resulting in his contract being terminated.

When he had his sub-contract at LCC he worked within three different sections. One of the positions being a Landscaper for the Boomerang Landscaping section within the Council. Tyron had been working within this section of the council for 7 consecutive years. The other two sections were Lily’s Lawn and Fairdinkum Mowing which he had only branched into for the past 6 months.

Mr. Ryan is now on Centrelink and they are in the process of helping Tyron get a placement into adult based apprenticeships.

.

Tyron Ryan admits to have previously had a poor background with alcohol causing him to make poor decisions in behaviour including poor money priorities.

He currently seeks to amend his problem with money and alcohol as they are the issues mainly responsible for his fallout with his girlfriend Cynthia. He has been referred to YFS for their Managing Money and Debt financial services to help address the money priority issue. Tyron has also gone to the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Community Health Centre in Woodridge to obtain referrals to counselling and Alcohol Anonymous meetings in order to put a stop to his drinking habit. They are a busy health service however he has been assessed and will have his first counselling session on the 19th November 2015.

Tyron also has visited Probation and Parole and requested he be placed on regular breathe testing to show he has a BAC content of 0.00%. He is determined to be the best role model for his daughter and partner’s 3 children.

Through the aid of Ganyjuu Family Support Services Tyron has been referred to South-East QLD Men’s Group to talk to other Indigenous men within the community who have made and experienced similar aspects of life through their actions and learn of how they got to the respected state they are now. Tyron has informed me he will be bringing his son to the Men’s Groups so he too can learn from others stories.

Tryon has also obtained a gym membership at Modern Warrior to give himself a greater reason to look after himself. He also signed his partner’s son up to join with him so that Tyron has support during his change of lifestyle.

I would like to make a suggestion to Your Honour under my role of Logan Indigenous Community Justice coordinator that the following factors be taken into consideration before a punishment is to be set:

-Mr. Ryan’s self initiative in addressing his problems before being court ordered to do so or having to be referred by support services.

-The on-going ATSICHS Mental health services for counseling.

-The on-going help from Ganyjuu to help provide Tyron with a job through our ‘Get A Job’ service and the South East QLD Men’s Group.

It would be recommended under my role of Community Justice Coordinator that Tyron Ryan be able to continue his engagement with the services he obligated himself to receive their help possibly through a 12 month Probation Parole Order.
