Our Independence Day Prayer

On this day, we pray for the leaders of our nation, our state, and our community that they will lead with wisdom and discernment.
We pray for the men and women who serve in our nation's military that they will fulfill their mission with courage and return home safely and soon.
We pray for our enemies that their swords will also be "turned into plowshares."
We pray for the churches, cathedrals, and temples of our nation and our community that we will be lighthouses of grace and mercy, ever pressing toward the mark of our high calling.
Because you are the freedom-loving God, lead us to exercise our freedom responsibly and to pursue "liberty and justice for all" of your children around the globe.
We pray in the strong name of the one who came to set us free. Amen.

Youth Formation Ministry

YFM REGISTRATION for 2009/ 2010

The deadline to register for next year’s program was June 30, 2009. Registered families will receive further information in late August with class information and starting dates.

YOUTH GROUP

Our Tuesday evening youth group continues to meet each week at 7pm in St. Andrew’s Hall on the second floor of St. Catherine’s Convent. All high school students are welcome to join us. Doors open at 6pm. This meeting has been a great success with 20 to 25 students attending weekly. We are always looking for new high school members!

MATTHEW 25

Students are invited to join us for this year’s Matthew 25 Program, which will take place immediately following Vacation Bible School, July 20 through 24. Last summer the YFM group assisted many parishioners around Norwood. We will again be planning to do similar work in the parish community. Students wishing to join us should sign up by contacting the YFM Office. Seniors who have minor repair projects and painting should contact Frank Connell at 617-792-3433 or Margaret Hayes at 781-762-2903 to reserve a crew for the summer.

GOSPEL ROAD

For this summer, we are bringing back, and revitalizing a very unique weeklong service program known as Gospel Road. The project will run from Sunday evening, July 26 until Friday afternoon, July 31. This program had great popularity in the Archdiocese years ago and was very popular at St. Timothy’s and St. Catherine’s as well. I am looking for both students and parents who would be interested in assisting with any one of the many aspects of this program. Please contact the YFM Office at 617-792-3433. With the economy still very unstable, and families having to tighten budgets, this is the YFM’s alternative to an out-of-state service trip. The deadline to register for this service week is Monday, July 13.

Black and Native American Support

Next week we will be having a special collection to support programs for Black and Native American populations. Proceeds from this collection are distributed as grants to dioceses supporting and strengthening evangelization programs, which would otherwise be in danger of disappearing among the Black, American Indian, Eskimo, and Aleut communities of the United States. Your support is appreciated!

Pine Street Inn

On Tuesday, July 14, we will be preparing and serving supper for the men at Holy Family Shelter. Desserts are welcomed! Please call for the drop off address (Helen, 781-769-1347).

Thank you to all those who have made generous donations in the past. $500 is sent to the Pine Street Inn each month. Please help to support this ministry. Donations to pay for these meals may be sent to:

Campagna, 86 Countryside Ln., Norwood, MA 02062. Please make checks payable to: St. Timothy Christian Service Fund.

They are looking for donations of an eclectic ensemble of treasures such as jewelry, antiques, vintage books, furniture, china, kitchenware, household items, tools, collectables, and bric-a-brac. All proceeds from the auction will help to support Bethany House Ministries, a non-profit organization. The event promises not only to be a fun and friendly experience, but also an investment in the future of someone in need. If you can help, contact either Sr. Kathleen, or Ruth at 508-376-9923 or email at . All donations can be dropped off at Bethany House Hope Chest at 1134 Main Street, Millis. Worldwide Marriage Encounter

Scripture says about married people that “Two shall live as one”. How often do you find yourselves living as two? A Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend can help you get back to basics in this complicated day and age. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekends in New England are July 17-19, September 25-27 and October 23-25. For more information, call Ralph and Jane Becker at 1-800-710-WWME or visit their webpage at

Moses and the Red Sea

Nine year old Joey was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday School. “Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved.” “Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?”his mother asked. “Well, no, Mom. But, if I told it the way the teacher did, you’d never believe it!”

St. Catherine of Siena School

Check Out St. Tim’s New Website

St. Timothy’s has recently launched its new and improved website! It is the same address that you have always used, with a new and improved “look and feel.” The new website has easier navigation menus, contact information for staff members, information on active ministries at St. Tim’s, picture galleries, interesting links, present and past bulletins, and as many updated forms as possible. There is also a calendar section that lists upcoming events with dates and times. We hope that this improved tool will help us to communicate more effectively with current parishioners and prospective ones as well! We will continue to add features on a regular basis, so check it out now and return there often! (If the old site comes up, be sure to hit your “refresh” button!)

The creation of the new website is the result of a year-long project involving a committee of parish members who researched available website and data management services, and worked on creating the design for the website.

Congratulations to all our students who have finished another year of school!

Have a fun and safe summer!
