Mohawk Paddles

Over 1 Million Sold Since 1976

(Fig 1)

The Mohawk Canoe Paddle is constructed with a high impact plastic blade and grip and anodized aluminum shaft. It combines performance, durability and no maintenance at a reasonable price. The Mohawk paddle with the 8” x 20” blade is available in a “T” or pear grip. We believe the shaft diameter of 1-1/8” is the most comfortable size for most hands. A plastic shaft grip eliminates the problem of aluminum oxide “rub off” and cold hands in cold weather. The 8” wide paddle is lightweight (a 54” paddle weighs approx. 28 oz and floats horizontally in the water).

(Fig 2)

The Bent Shaft paddlefeatures an extremely comfortable contoured pear grip that is modeled after grips usually found only on top-of-the-line competition paddles. It has the same blade, shaft and shaft grip described above. The bend at the very upper part of the blade, is 12 degrees. Our bent shaft paddle is one of the best, low priced paddles of this type available and is ideal for testing the advantages of a bent shaft paddle at an economical price.

(Fig 3)The Mohawk Kayak Paddleis constructed out of the same materials as the canoe paddle. The blades are 8” wide feathered or unfeathered. Our 2 piece kayak paddle connection is both simple and durable. The feathered option is at an 80 degree angle, right-hand control.

Notice that in the below illustration Mohawk Paddle blades have a taper from the bottom of the blade to the throat (top of the blade). There is a tremendous difference in the feel of a tapered and non-tapered bald as the tapered blade slides out of the water so much easier.

PROPER PADDLE LENGTH To determine proper standard paddle length, sit in the canoe seat and place the blade completely in the water. The top of the grip should be at shoulder level. When you “push” the top of the paddle, your arm will be horizontal with the water. As you can see, body trunk height, not overall height is the determining factor. If you compare trunk height you will find there is not much difference from one person to the next. Probably 90% of all adults can use a 54” paddle with a 20” long blade. A longer or shorter blade will change the overall length of the paddle by the amount the blade length varies. We believe that a paddle with a contoured design as shown above is the best type of paddle for recreational cruising or racing. Whitewater paddlers, however, may want a little longer paddle for various whitewater maneuvers.
