UFH CHESS Proposal

We are the Chess Club of The University of Fort Hare (UFH). As a growing club within the institution we humbly request that you meet our acquaintance in the upcoming UFH chess event through a sizable compensation that’ll help the club to empower the minds of many struggling students within a struggling community.

Chess is an abstract strategy game that is played in 64 black and white, checkers like squares. It consists of 2 groups of pieces (black and white) battling it out through various tactics, maneuvers and strategic plans to out play the other player in the form of a checkmate. It exercises the mental acumen of the player, pushing it to new lengths each time the player plays a new game. It helps in many spheres of mind and sharpens the ability to think critically, analytically and positively. Players soon learn to think opportunistically and exploitatively. Chess also increases the ability of a player’s foresight and they perceive things better. You soon become a problem solver who is more solution and goal orientated. All this and plenty more are a few in many benefits provided in chess.

We hope that we could host an event in the university as a means to make the UFH community more aware of the chess club and hoping that the community might learn that chess is a sport which teaches its players proper planning and carefully executing their plans, skills like those could be utilized in the academic lifestyle, making chess players better planners and good managers of time since chess enforces discipline and order.

We would like to include a space for checkers players to appeal to more people. Constant research showed us that more people are familiar and can actually play checkers. It also turns out that people are attracted to the familiar things. We hope that the checkers players will in turn gain some interest in the game of chess. This could also help us curb some stigmas regarding chess due to our familiarizing strategy.
