Our university profile
QujingNormalUniversity in Qujing, was the only degree-granting institution of higher learning in Northeast Yunnan, one of the graduate program developing units in YunnanProvince. The university achieved “B” in the national university accreditation in June 2007 and was on the list of beingaccessible to qualified studentsin 2011. As the only one undergraduate university in Northeast Yunnan, QujingNormalUniversity is amongst those to which the Yunnan Provincial Government and Qujing Municipal Government grant preferential policies and supports. The University is located in QujingCity, the second largest city in Yunnan, the hometown of Cuan Culture, one of the “Top 10 National Residence-Friendly Cities”, and the Wellspring of the Pearl River which is the third largest river in China.
Bearing teacher education tradition of overfive score years, and enlightened with the school spirit of “Enjoying the cultivation of talents with unremitting efforts, fostering students engendering innovation with spirit of dedication”, the university’s academic community makes key contributions to the education and social well-being of Qujing, Yunnan, and the nation, and the institution became a catalyst of economic growth and social innovation. It enjoys the reputation of “Qujing, the wellspring of the long Pearl River, where the school, the cradle for thousands of teachers, is sailing for ever.” It has now become the leading role in education development, a base for training qualified teachers, and a window for the construction of advanced culture in Northeast Yunnan.
Facilities
The university occupies a 209acre (1267 mu)campus (Gucheng Campus, Huandong Campus) with a newly-built 190-acre (1158 mu) central core (new school). The total floor space is 250, 000m2, the fixed access is 462 million yuan, of which the total value of the teaching and scientific research-related facilities as well as equipments stands at 49,418,600 yuan. On the new campus, which was built in 2004, is an all-purpose teaching building which meets the demands of modern education, an experiment building for sciences, a modern information technology center, a library which holds over 1.175 million volumes, an auditorium, sports fields and gyms, multimedia halls, Yifu Arts Building, well-functioning school information network and other well-equipped teaching and educational facilities. The Internet services are available in the students’ dormitories. With the area for trees and grass accounting for 62.4% of the total school area, the university is exceedingly beautiful.
Discipline and specialty
The university’s academic enterprise includes 16 schools and colleges in which some of them are subdivided into departments, four teaching aiding institutions, and 20 research centers.The university is undertaking one national and two provincial featured specialties, two provincial key constructing disciplines and two specialties, three provincial featured specialties, and three provincial disciplines for MA program, one research base of PE from the General Administration of Sport and China and one key constructing provincial research base of Philosophy and Social Sciences as well.It has also developed three provincial ModelExperimentTeachingCenters, two provincial qualified laboratories, as well as eight provincial excellent courses, three provincial teaching teams and one provincial demonstration plot of innovative experiment in education mode. The university offers 39 specialties of bachelor degree, 17 specialties of vocational education, and 60 of adult continuing education. The specialties rang from economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, natural science, engineering, to management.
Current students
The student body of the university is more then thirteen thousand, together with over ten thousand students of correspondence, RTV and network-based distance education, and the enrollment has grown to nearly 3,700 students each year attending 16 schools and colleges at two different locations in the city. It attracts students from all parts of the province, from around the country.

The university now totals 874 full-time members, amongst whom are 632 staff, and 249 professors and associate professors, covering 39.4% of the total, 468academicstaff with doctor’s degree and master degree or Ph. D and MA candidates, covering 74%; 37 MA supervisors employed by Shanghai Normal University, Yunnan University and Yunnan Normal University, seven experts receiving special allowance granted by the State Council, one teacher titled Outstanding Teacher in China, five experts making remarkable contributions to professional technology in certain fields and enjoying special allowance granted by the Yunnan Provincial Government, one teacher selected as the Young and Middle-aged Academic and Technical Leader, three teachers titled Teaching and Research Leaders, four teachers titled Outstanding Teachers, and three teachers titled Extraordinary Teachers in Yunnan.56 visiting and part-timing professors and nine international teachers are working for the university.
Students’ achievements
The university has laid stress on the cultivation of the students’ innovative spirits, capability of social practices and employability. The students have made dazzling achievements and awarded over 700 prizes in various provincial-level-above contests, for example, the National Mathematical Modeling Competition for College Students, the “Challenge Cup” National Academic and Scientific Works Competition for College Students and the National Chinese Language Competence Contest for Normal University Students. And the Central Committee of the Youth League and the Yunnan Provincial Committee have spoken highly of the program “Countryside Touring” for seven consecutive years. With the employment rate of over 93%, the graduates of the university have topped the chart of the universities in Yunnan for seven years running from 2004 to 2010.
Research achievements
The university has undertaken over 710 scientific research programs of various fields since 2000, among which are 17 national social science funding research programs solely, 4 natural science funding research programs solely and jointly, as well as 287 research projects from the Education Ministry and Yunnan Province and 343 university-level projects. The faculty have compiled and published 110 monographs and textbooks or art works. They have also published over 4000 research papers. The programs have been awarded 22prizes for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences, one for science and technology, 12 for teaching achievementsin Yunnan, 105 province orministrylevel or above prizes for teaching of various realms, and 61 for philosophy and social sciences and 24 for literature and arts in Qujing as well.
International cooperation and exchange
QujingNormalUniversity actively conducts international exchanges and cooperation and has established friendly ties with VSO, theUniversity of Texas at Tylerand the PGCC, Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University of Thailand, and some research institutions. Annually the university selects and organizes teachers and students to visit overseas higher educational institutions in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, and more than 140 selected staff and studentsvisiting the above countries and conducting Chinese teaching andlearning program in the Southeast Asian countries. The university has engaged 48international teachers from the United States, the UK, Canada, Netherlands, Switzerland, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Planning the future
As faculty of the university, we are profoundly optimistic about our future. Based on our past and present, we find inspiration for the future. In line with the strategic decision jointly made by the Qujing Municipal Government to transform QujingNormalUniversity to a comprehensive QujingUniversity, focusing on teacher and engineering education in 2015. During the new development period, the university has formulated the goals of development aiming at stressing undergraduate education, applying for the empowerment of master’s degree and developing a comprehensive university. Looking into the future and guided by the outlook of scientific development, the university will emancipate the minds, grasp opportunities and make great efforts to establish a comprehensive university which boasts advantages，marked features and application. The university aims to accomplish the long term goal of being listed one of the top West China universities.
