Montgomery County Department of Police

1st District: 04/16/12 to 04/24/12

A2 Beat:

·  A strong-arm robbery occurred at Aleutian Avenue & Midway Avenue, Rockville on the bike path on Tuesday, 4/17 between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The adult male victim was walking when the suspects came from behind, beat him and took his wallet. There were inconsistencies in the victim’s story and he did not report the robbery until he went to Holy Cross Hospital an hour later. He does not wish to pursue the investigation.

Suspect: two or possibly three H/M’s.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 900 block of Grandin Avenue, Rockville on Wednesday, 4/18 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The victim’s employee came to the house and found the front door ajar. Electronics taken.

A4 Beat:

·  A residential burglary/vehicle theft occurred in the 16200 block of Redland Road, Rockville between 12:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, 4/19. The method of entry into the house was unknown; the vehicle keys were taken from a key hook inside. The victim’s vehicle was then taken.

Vehicle: white ’08 Toyota 4Runner, MD tags.

B1 Beat:

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 400 block of Blandford Street, Rockville between 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 4/19 and 12:30 a.m. on Friday, 4/20. Unforced entry; property taken.

·  Two thefts from vehicles occurred in the area of Clydes Tower Oaks Lodge, 2 Preserve Parkway, Rockville. Forced entry was used in both.

Ø  On Thursday, 4/19 between 5:00 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Broke the window, took the stereo.

Ø  On Saturday, 4/21 between 3:55 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Pried the window, took the stereo.

B2 Beat:

·  An armed robbery/vehicle theft occurred at Shady Grove Road & Route 270, Rockville on Wednesday, 4/18 at 12:05 a.m. The victim is an Action Taxi cab driver who had picked up the suspect at the Shady Grove Metro to go to Silver Spring. The victim asked the suspect for a deposit and when he refused, started to bring him back to the Metro. The suspect put a hard object to the victim’s neck and the victim jumped out of the cab at a red light. The suspect drove off in the vehicle and after a short pursuit, was arrested nearby.

Arrested: 27 year old male from Washington, DC.

B3 Beat:

·  Two residential burglaries occurred in the 10300 and 10800 blocks of Great Arbor Drive, Potomac, one on Friday, 4/20 between 11:00 a.m. and 6:20 p.m., the other on Wednesday, 4/25 between 4:00 p.m. and 10:02 p.m. In both instances there was forced entry and property taken. The same suspects were seen.

Suspect: B/M, in his teens;

Suspect: H/M, in his teens.

·  A theft occurred at the Safeway, 10104 River Road, Potomac on Tuesday, 4/17 around 4:30 p.m. An elderly female victim had her wallet taken from a closed purse that was in her shopping cart. The victim said the suspect below engaged her in a conversation about potatoes, but it is unknown if he was involved in the theft.

Suspect: B/M, light complexion, mid 50’s, possibly wearing glasses, windbreaker jacket, plaid shirt.

B4 Beat:

·  A commercial burglary occurred at Potomac Garden Center, 12024 Darnestown Road, Gaithersburg between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 4/22 and 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 4/23. Forced entry. Property taken.

·  A theft occurred at Magruders, 12116 Darnestown Road, Gaithersburg between 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 4/16 and 9:38 on Tuesday, 4/17. A ladder was used to climb to the roof where 50 feet of copper paneling was removed.

2nd District: 4/16/2012 to 4/24/2012

D1 Beat:

·  No significant activity to report.

D2 Beat:

·  A theft from a vehicle and a vehicle theft were reported at separate County garages in the Chevy Chase/Bethesda area.

Ø  Sometime between Thursday, 4/19 and Friday, 4/20, a ’08 Toyota Prius was stolen from a garage on Woodmont Avenue; it was recovered on 4/21 parked in another County garage further down the street.

Ø  On Friday, 4/20 between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., a laptop was taken from the trunk of a vehicle parked at 4841 Bethesda Avenue; no signs of forced entry.

D3 Beat:

·  A robbery occurred in the 7900 block of Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase on Saturday, 4/21 between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The adult male victim was cutting across the golf course of a county club when he was approached by the suspects who demanded property. After relinquishing his cash and cell phone, the victim made his way to a nearby gas station where he contacted police.

Suspects: two B/Ms, one approx. 5’9” and one approx. 6’.

E2 Beat:

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 8100 block of Rayburn Road, Bethesda on Thursday, 4/19 between 12:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Unknown entry; property taken.

·  An attempted residential burglary occurred in the 8900 block of Fernwood Road, Bethesda on Monday, 4/23 at noon.

E3 Beat:

·  Graffiti was spray painted on construction materials in the 7300 block of Tuckerman Lane, Bethesda sometime overnight from Monday, 4/16 to Tuesday, 4/17.

E4 Beat:

·  An aggravated assault occurred at the Bethesda Health & Rehab Center, 5721 Grosvenor Lane, Bethesda on Friday, 4/20 at approximately 3:45 p.m. The referenced suspect got into a verbal and physical altercation with staff at this location. The suspect was escorted out of the property whereupon he proceeded to drive his vehicle over a curb in an apparent attempt to strike an employee. The employee was able to avoid the vehicle, and the suspect sped away.

Suspect: A/M, 52, 5’9”, 155 lbs, from Germantown;

Vehicle: ’91 gold Chevy sedan, MD Tags.

·  An indecent exposure incident occurred at the White Flint Metro Station, Bethesda on Thursday, 4/19 between 7:50 p.m. and 8:50 p.m. The female victim reported that she was on the train from DC when just after the train left the White Flint Station, the suspect asked the victim for the time. The victim looked up and saw the suspect was masturbating. The victim moved her seat and the suspect exited the train at the Twinbrook station.

Suspect: B/M, 30-35, 5’8”.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 10300 block of Fleming Avenue, Bethesda on Tuesday, 4/17 between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Forced entry; event interrupted by resident; nothing taken.

Suspect: W/M, 40-45, 5’6”-5’8”, 145-155 lbs, wearing a clack ski cap.

·  Two incidents of thefts from vehicles (parts) were reported this week at residential lots in the 10800 block of Antigua Terrace, North Bethesda sometime between Monday, 4/16 and Friday, 4/20. Airbags were taken from a ’06 Honda Accord (no signs of forced entry) and four tires were taken from a ’06 Nissan. No suspects were seen at either event.

3rd District: 4/16/2012 to 4/24/2012

G1 Beat:

·  Two residential burglaries occurred on consecutive days, in close proximity with similar MO and are believed to be related:

Ø  On Monday, 4/23 between 1:15 p.m. and 2:23 p.m. in the 700 block of Silver Spring Avenue, Silver Spring. Forced entry; property taken.

Suspects: (3) B/M’s, 15-16, 5’5” to 5’10”, 140-160lbs, wearing dark windbreakers.

Ø  On Sunday, 4/22 at 2:45 p.m. in the 8400 block of Hartford Avenue, Silver Spring. Forced entry; property taken.

G2 Beat:

·  An aggravated assault occurred in a parking lot in the 9400 block of Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring on Friday, 4/20 at 2:00 a.m. The adult male victim advised that the suspects grabbed him, punched him, produced a knife and threatened to stab him. The victim advised he was able to break free and run from the suspects.

Suspects: B/M, 25-35 years, 6’4” to 6’6”, 250-260lbs, with dreadlocks;

(2) H/M’s, 25-25 years, 5’4” to 5’6”, 140-150lbs.

H1 Beat:

·  No significant activity to report.

H2 Beat:

·  A robbery occurred at Northwood High School, Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/18 at 10:30 a.m. A juvenile male was robbed by suspects from whom he arranged to purchase sneakers in a restroom. The victim said that he was grabbed by the suspects who snatched his cash. The victim, fearing for his safety, fled to the cafeteria where a teacher rendered assistance. Three fellow students were identified by the victim and arrested at the school.

Arrested: Male, age 15, from Silver Spring;

Male, age 16, from Aspen Hill;

Male, age 16, from Silver Spring.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 400 block Waterford Road, Silver Spring on Monday, 4/23 at 7:17 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken.

I1 Beat:

·  An aggravated assault occurred in the 12800 block of Iona Court, Calverton on Thursday, 4/19 at 5:09 P.M. The incident was domestic related.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 12900 block of Buccaneer Drive, Silver Spring on Monday, 4/16 at 12:56 p.m. Forced entry; nothing taken.

Suspect: B/M, 20 years of age, 6” 200 lbs.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 11400 block of July Drive, Silver Spring between 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 4/16 and 8:13 p.m. on Thursday, 4/19. Unforced entry; property taken.

I2 Beat:

·  An attempted robbery occurred in a restroom at Paint Branch High School, 14121 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville on Tuesday, 4/17 at 1:00 p.m. The victim advised that the suspects grabbed him, searched him and attempted to remove his property. A struggle ensued and one suspect removed a chain from the victim which the victim was able to retrieve. The suspects fled the restroom and one was arrested in a class room. A second suspect was identified; no probable cause for arrest based solely on this document.

Arrested: Male, age 18, from Burtonsville;

Suspect: B/M, 15.

·  An attempted residential burglary occurred on Monday, 4/16 between 11:00 a.m. and noon in the 14300 block of Beaker Court, Burtonsville. Suspects about to enter an unlocked window; interrupted by resident; suspects fled.

Suspects: (2) B/M’s, 19-21 years, 5’11” to 6’1”, wearing white tank tops and jeans.

·  A commercial burglary occurred at the Free State Gas Station, 15411 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville on Thursday, 4/19 at 3:54 a.m. Forced entry; property taken.

Suspect: W/M, wearing a burgundy Redskins hat, black jacket and black scarf

covering his face.

4th District: 4/16/2012 to 4/24/2012

J1 Beat:

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 1000 block of Good Hope Drive, Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/18 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Forced entry; cash taken.

J2 Beat:

·  No significant activity to report.

K1 Beat:

·  An armed robbery occurred in the 3500 block of May Street, Silver Spring on Friday, 4/20 at 11:25 p.m. The victim was on a northbound metro bus. The suspect was on the same bus and exited at the same stop at northbound Georgia and Rippling Brook Drive. The suspect ran ahead of the victim, then came out of hiding from behind a vehicle. The victim heard what sounded like a gun racking and observed the suspect holding a gun to her head. The suspect stated, “Give me what’s in your hand.” Then he grabbed her cell phone and ran in the direction of May Street and Napier.

Suspect: Hispanic male, 19-22, 5’3” – 5’7”, thin build, short hair, light complexion, wearing a gray baseball cap, gray shirt, gray pants, and carrying a black backpack.

·  A strong-arm robbery/purse snatch occurred in front of the K-Mart, 14000 Connecticut Avenue, Aspen Hill on Monday, 4/23 at 12:08 p.m. The victim is 81 years old. As the victim entered her car in the parking lot, the suspect reached over her and grabbed her purse. A struggle ensued, but the suspect was able to wrestle the purse away from the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital for heart problems resulting from the robbery. The suspect ran down Grand Pre Road, where the purse was “recovered” by a person matching the description of the suspect. Cash taken.

Suspect: black male 20, 6’, 160 lbs., short cropped hair, wearing a blue jacket.

·  A home invasion robbery/aggravated assault occurred in the 3800 block of Gawayne Terrace, Silver Spring on Sunday, 4/22 at 1:00 a.m. The suspects entered the house by unknown means. The victim (male, 54 years old) was sleeping when the suspects forced their way through his locked bedroom door. The suspects beat the victim and pointed guns at him and asked where the cash was. The suspects ordered the victim into the bathroom and he complied. After 30 minutes the victim exited the bathroom to find drawers throughout the room rifled, but nothing apparently missing.

Suspects: two black males, both 25-30, both 6’, medium build and wearing all black.

·  An aggravated assault occurred in the 14300 block of Bel Pre Drive, Aspen Hill on Saturday, 4/21 at 3:30 a.m. The incident was domestic in nature; an argument was over the defendant’s drug use.

Arrested: male, 53, from Aspen Hill.

K2 Beat

·  A commercial burglary occurred at BAE Systems, Research Boulevard, Rockville between Tuesday, 4/17 at midnight and Wednesday, 4/18 at 9:22 p.m. The suspects used a car jack to pry up the rear garage door. Taken: copper wire, copper pipe, tools.

Arrested: male, 28, from Brookeville;

male, 29, from Frederick.

L1 Beat:

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 11400 block of Lund Place, Kensington in the two weeks before Tuesday, 4/17 at 7:44 p.m. Forced entry; residence vandalized; nothing taken.

·  A residential burglary occurred in the 2300 block of Glenmont Circle, Wheaton on Sunday, 4/13 between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The suspect(s) entered via unknown means. Property taken.
