MEETING OF THE MINDS
(a role-playing project)
RESEARCH PAPER
In your research paper you will include why you are famous enough to be invited to this prestigious meeting (no more than one page on this part), and your character’s views on the following topics: the role of women in your society, “code of honor,” duty to country, and religious beliefs (including feelings about suicide and images of the afterlife). In order to delve into the personality of your character, you are to write this paper as if you were the character himself (or herself). In other words, you will use 1st person narration. You must use at least four sources (1 internet, 1 reference, 2 secondary) and attach a words cited page. Whenever possible, include direct quotes from your character. (If you have trouble finding a certain type of source for your character see me)
The paper is to be typed, double spaced, 12 in. font. It is due Wednesday Dec. 14th at the beginning of class. You will have class time in the library in order to begin researching your character’s life and views. Additional research will need to be done on your own.
ROLE PLAYING
After you research your character’s life and his or her views on the noted topics, you will prepare to role play this person in a round table discussion for your classmates. The round table discussions will be in combined classes (both sides of LEAP together) on Wednesday Dec. 14th-Friday. Discussions will be without note cards and are to last 15 to 20 minutes per group of about 5 people. Part of your assignment is to dress in an appropriate costume for you character. Do not buy a costume, but create one with sheets, a robe, handmade crowns, armor, etc. We are looking forward to seeing your creativity in action. Keep in mind we will be taking pictures and filming your projects.
GRADING
This project counts as a major grade in both history and English. There will be two separate portions taken. The first is the research paper portion. It will total 290 pts. (which roughly is the estimate of 3 test grades) The second is the round table discussion worth 100 pts. (1 test grade) Here’s the break-down…
