1.Scope

1.1 This Application Notes applies to the Channel Emulator and EMQuest™ Setup.

2.General Responsibility and Authority

2.1 The Field Service Technician(s) have the general responsibility of performing the RF Channel Emulator and EMQuest™ Setupand the authority to direct appropriate actions of exceptional situations not included within this Application Notes.

2.2 The Field Service Technician(s) and/or Engineering Representative(s) shall provide technical assistance as necessary.

3.Equipment Required

IBM compatible computer system, Pentium II or higher with Windows 2000 or higher Operating Systems, 128 MB memory or more, 500 MB free hard drive space with EMQuest software installed.
Measurement Chamber: ETS-Lindgren 3D fully anechoic chamber and its measuring system making use of EMQuest™ software.
EB Propsim F8/Channel Emulator(s) (CE)
Ethernet Switch
LNA(s) P/N 117907
Ethernet Cables
BNC cable (If more than one EB Propsim F8/CE will be use)
KVM cable/switch (If more than one EB Propsim F8/CE will be use)

4.EquipmentSetup.

4.1 Refer to the Project Integration Diagram for the next steps to setup the equipment.

4.2 Verify that the EB Propsim F8/CE(s) and the ETS-Lindgren LNA(s) are fully installed and operational.

4.3 Connect the Ethernet Switch to one of the Ethernet network adapters in the Controller PC with EMQuest™.

4.4 If a Goniometer is use in the chamber, do not connect its Ethernet to Fiber Optic converter to the same Ethernet Switch of the EB Propsim F8/CE(s). The Ethernet to Fiber Optic converter for the Goniometer must be connected to a different Network Adapter in the controller PC. The Goniometer uses subnet 1 and the EB Propsim F8/CE(s) use subnet 0, and this will create conflicts.

4.5 Connect the Jumpers between the “Output” and Center (C) connectors in the back of the LNA(s). See Figure 1.

4.6 Connect the RF cables from the MIMO antenna panel in the chamber to the back of the LNA(s) according to the corresponding MIMO Antenna Configuration in Appendix A. See figure 1.

4.7 Connect the Ethernet cables from the Ethernet switch to the Ethernet connector (LAN) in the back of the LNA(s). See figure 1.

Figure 1:Ethernet connection in the back of LNA

4.8 If more than one EB PropsimF8 will be use, connect the BNC cable to the connector “C2” (Sync out) in the Master EB Propsim F8/CE and “C1” (Sync in) in the slave Propsim/CE. See figure 2.

4.9 Connect the Ethernet cable(s) from the Ethernet switch to the EB Propsim F8/CE(s) front connector(s). See Figure 2.

Figure 2:EB Propsim F8/CE Front Connectors

4.10 If only one EB PropsimF8 /CE will be use connect the monitor, mouse and Key board to the Propsim/CE front connectors. Go to Step 4.12.See Figure 3.

4.11 If more than one EB Propsim F8/CE will be use, connect the KVM cables to the Monitor, USB and Keyboard.

4.12 Connect the two other ends of the KVM to the EB Propsim F8/CEs front connectors.See Figure 3.

Figure 3:KVM connection to the EB Propsim F8

4.13 Connect Input/Channels 1 and 2 of the EB PropsimF8/CE(s) to the CMW according to the Integration Diagram. See figure 4.

4.14 Connect Outputs 1 to 8 from the EB Propsim F8/CE(s)output connectors to the LNA(s) RF Input connectors.See figure 4.

4.15 Turn on the EB Propsim F8/CE(s) and the ETS-Lindgren LNA(s) and wait for complete warm up.

5.Configuration of the Propsim(s) IP Address(s).

5.1 Select “System” in the EB Propsim F8/CE main menu.

5.2 Select “Control Panel”.

5.3 Select “Network Connections”.

5.4 Right click the Network Adapter and click on “Properties”.

5.5 Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties”.

5.6 Click “Use the following IP address” and enter “192.168.0.11” for the Master EB Propsim F8/CE.

5.7 Enter “255.255.255.0” in “Subnet Mask”.

5.8 If a second Propsim is installed change the Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse connection in the KVM to connect to it.

5.9 Repeat steps 5.1 to 5.7, but use “192.168.0.12”for the Slave EB Propsim F8/CE.

6.Configuration of the Share Drive “Propsim Channel Emulator”.

6.1 The share drive can be configured in the Controller PC with EMQuest™ or in the EB Propsim F8/CE(s).

6.2 Verify that a User ID and Password are configured for the controller PC or EB Propsim F8/CE where the share drive is going to be created.

6.3 The following steps show the configuration of the share drive in the Controller PC with EMQuest™.

6.4 Create a folder in the “ETS-Lindgren” folder located in Program Files and name it “Propsim Channel Model”.

6.5 Right click “Propsim Channel Model” folder and click on “Properties”.

6.6 Clickthe “Sharing” tab, click on “Advancing Sharing”, check “Share this folder, click “Permissions”, select “Everyone” in “Group of user names”, check “Full Control” and click “Apply” and “OK”.

6.7 Click “Ok” in “Advanced Sharing” and “Sharing” windows.
