SS002 / EMG/ECG recording. Involves electrical recordings from active skeletal muscle or myocardium and involves placement of electrodes on appropriate sites on the skin surface, for EMG or ECG recording. / Alan Donnelly / Trained PESS lecturing or research staff/post-grad researchers. SS003 / Isometric strength testing. Subjects perform maximal isometric (i.e. fixed length) contraction of muscle, usually the knee extensors or knee flexors of one leg. SS005 / Submaximal exercise on a cycle ergometer. SS008 / Muscle testing on an isokinetic dynamometer. This involved testing contractile properties on the Con-trex isokinetic system. The volunteer is secured on the con-trex by a seat belt system, which prevents lateral movement. SS010 / 3D Motion Analysis (Normal Activity). SS011 / 3D Motion Analysis (Vigorous Activity). Healthy adult subjects will be video-taped while performing vigorous activity or sporting activities such as running, jumping, kicking, throwing, lifting, etc. Lightweight removable retro-reflective markers will be placed on the subjects joint centres and other major anatomical landmarks. / Drew Harrison / Trained PESS lecturing or research staff/post-grad researchers. SS012 / Balance assessment using force plates. The subject is required to balance on one leg. The test will be performed for a period of 30-60 seconds under two conditions eyes open and eyes closed. SS014 / Force plate Analysis (Vigorous activity). SS020 / Measurement of power output using a friction braked cycle ergometer (Wingate). Friction loads randomly assigned and ranging from 2 to 12% bodyweight are loaded onto the bike in 6 stages. / Sally Lark / PESS lecturing or research staff/post-grad researchers.
SS021 / Affect of temperature on muscle power. Involves submersing subject's legs (to waist) in a water bath at 6° for 4 minutes, or 30° for approximately 30 minutes.
