A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE CHRIST CHURCH EPISCOPAL SCHOOL BOYS’ TENNIS TEAM AND THE TEAM’S COACH, SALLY SHURTZ, ON THEIR OUTSTANDING DETERMINATION AND HARD WORK THROUGH OUT THEIR SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 2003 CLASS AAA BOYS’ TENNIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2003.

Whereas, participating in tennis affords young people the opportunity to learn unique athletic skills and the importance of hard work and determination; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, using those talents, Head Coach Sally Shurtz and the members of the Christ Church “Cavaliers” Boys’ Tennis Team competed in several matches during their season improving their techniques and working diligently to achieve their common goal of winning the State Championship Title; and

Whereas, the members of the 2003 Christ Church Episcopal School “Cavaliers” Boys’ Tennis Team are Will Guzick, Daniel Knause, Gray Yeargin, Henry Walker, Perry MacLennan, Ryan Loveless, Grayson Lucas, Ryan Horton, Robert Allen, Joe Ellison, Clark Barber, and Rich Ingram; and

Whereas, this young team, made up of eight eighth graders, one freshman, one sophomore, and two juniors, may appear inexperienced, but dominated and intimidated their opponents on the court; and

Whereas, this State Championship marks the eighteenth state title for the “Cavaliers” since 1976, but the first for Coach Shurtz; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Christ Church Episcopal School Boys’ Tennis Team and the team’s coach, Sally Shurtz, on their outstanding determination and hard work throughout their season and on capturing the 2003 Class AAA Boys’ Tennis State Championship Title on Saturday, May 10, 2003.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Christ Church Episcopal School Boys’ Tennis Team in Greenville.
