The IPK Gatersleben and Martin-Luther University establish a graduate school entitled “Yield Formation in cereals – overcoming yield-limiting factors”. The school has been funded under the Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation 2012 program by the Leibniz Association, and represents the IPK and MLU’s goal of establishing a joint graduate school which takes advantage of both institutions’ academic excellence in crop plant research. The graduate school is a structural component of the newly established “Science campus Halle plant-based bioeconomy”.

Please note: The number of participants is limited to max. eight (8) students and/ or post-docs. Please register until 27th February 2015.

Histological and ultrastructural analysis of plant tissue using Light, Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy

Host: Dr. M. Melzer, Dr. T. Rutten (PZB/SZB)

Time: Monday till Friday, 13th - 17th April 2015, 8.30 a.m. – 12.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. -4.30 p.m.; Friedrich-Miescher house, IPK campus

Program:
This practical course will be aimed at Ph.D. students and post-docs who would like to learn new and emerging techniques in histology and electron microscopy. The major objective of this practical course is to introduce sample preparation and practical work of scanning and transmission electron microscopes as well as histological examinations based on light microscopy. A daily lecture will cover topics from basic to advanced cell biological methods as high pressure freezing, microwave tissue preparation or immunogold labeling. Followed by an introduction to histology and electron microscopy, we will offer the opportunity for hands-on training on fundamentals of tissue preparation staining, microscopy analysis, and digital imaging.

Registration:

If you want to attend, please register by writing an Email to until February 27, 2015. Please add a short a summary of your current field of research and expectations regarding your participation. Application will be accepted in chronological order of receipt.
