Coming up

*Watch Christian Aid

Meeting tomorrow, Monday 5th October, in Burley United Reformed Church Meeting Room from 7.00pm to 8.00pm.
Watch Christian Aid provides an opportunity to think about world poverty – to discuss and pray about some of the issues. Everyone welcome. Mary Wood

*Tuesday Coffee Time

Although we have had one volunteer, there is still a need for more help – ideally so that there can be two people serving each time. It’s an ideal opportunity to relax and chat with friends and visitors.

If you think you can help, please have a word with Gillian MacIntosh. Gillian MacIntosh

*Supporting Refugees

You may be aware that Churches Together in Burley & Menston recently organized an open meeting for people from our two communities to share ideas on how we might respond to the current refugee crisis. There are many ideas that are being considered but two that are already set up and running are:

• A Facebook account has been set up for sharing information and concerns – please go to search for “Wharfedale Welcomes Refugees”

• A page has been set up on the Just Giving website so that people can make donations to the charity War Child, which is working with Syrian children. Please go to and search for Wharfedale Welcomes Refugees.

We will keep you updated with further news over the next few days and weeks. You can also find out more about how the churches are responding by becoming “friends” with me on Facebook or following me on Twitter @RevTimPerkins Rev Tim

*Home Communion Training Session

There will now be a session on Home Communion on Saturday 17th October from 9.30am to 12.00 at Menston, to be led by Rev Rob Hilton from Christchurch, Ilkley.

We are beginning to make plans for a Circuit Day, sometime in the Spring, to look at other aspects of the Methodist Pastoral Training Course, “Encircled in Care”.

If you would be interested in attending the session on 17th October, please let Rev Tim know. Equally, if you would like to be involved in leading Home Communions but cannot do 17th October, speak to Tim. Rev Tim

*Bramhope Methodist Church – Autumn Plant Sale 2015

The autumn plant sale will be held on Friday 9th October from 9.30am to 6.30pm and Saturday 10th October 9.00am to 2.00pm.

Professionally grown plants for autumn and winter will be on sale in Bramhope Methodist Church Hall.

Any profit from the Autumn Plant Sale will go to Church funds. Bramhope Stewards

Also: Celebration and Dedication Service

Please come and join us at Bramhope Methodist Church on Sunday 18th October at 3pm, as we celebrate the renewal of our premises and re-dedicate them. Further details on the notice board.

*Chicago Bridge Club

There will be a Chicago Bridge Club opening on alternate Tuesday evenings, starting on Tuesday 13th October, in the Hall, at 7.15pm

Unlike the Friday afternoon Rubber Bridge Club, players must come along with a partner. A reasonable level of playing is needed.

Further information from Valerie or Trevor Russell (864911)

*Christmas get-together meal – info for your diaries

This annual get-together meal has been booked for Thursday 10th December at the Lawnswood Arms.

Further details will be available shortly.

Do come along and join us. Valerie & Trevor Russell

*Church Bookings

As the church building is being used more and more, it is important to check on availability to avoid any ‘clashes’.

It would also be helpful if regular users would confirm their term dates.

Many thanks, Trevor Russell, Booking Secretary

Unity in Prayer

Lord, may the doors of our homes be wide enough to receive those in need; and narrow enough to shut out all envy and pride. May each threshold be smooth enough to provide no stumbling block to children or to straying feet. Let the entrance be rugged and strong enough to turn back the tempter’s power. May those who enter find the gateway to your eternal kingdom. Amen. Thomas Ken (1637 – 1711)

Pray for the Sick and Housebound.

Please remember in your prayers those who grieve over the loss of a loved one.

Please pray for peace in all the places in the world where there is war and strife.

Pray for the countries where the people go hungry and forthe aid agencies who are working to alleviate their need.

Please remember in your prayers all those you know who are in special need at the moment,

Please pray for all members of the church family who are sick at home or in hospital.

Pray for those in residential homes; the housebound and the lonely.

Please tell one of the stewards if you know of anyone who should be included in the prayers of intercession, or who should be visited, or add their name to the Intercessions Book in the vestibule.

For your own devotions. “Family Reconciliation”(27thweek in Ordinary Time)
