Using the 3 criteria above, please explain in layperson’s/non-technical terms the basis for your nomination of each relevant entry. Please provide evidence, where possible. It would be helpful if you could strive to be clear and succinct in elaborating on each criterion met, preferably a max. of 100 words per criteria. Please include any available form of external validation (e.g. project has been shared on local or international platforms, won a prize elsewhere, accepted for publication in a good journal; etc), where applicable. NOTE: A simple explanatory note is included below for your use/reference:
(i)Originality and significance: the problem identified and the solution offered are original in the way the student(s) has/have approached them; shows innovative thinking; problem or issue discussed and/or the solution offered has significant implications for the field or can be applied in some way.
(ii)Clarity of understanding of the field: shows a clear command of the knowledge relating to the (sub)field; well articulated; logically formulated.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE
OUTSTANDING UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHER PRIZE (OURP) - AY2014/2015
The OURP competition, first launched in AY2006/2007, is an annual university-wide competition that aims to find the best undergraduate researcher(s).
OBJECTIVE
To encourage research among undergraduates at NUS by presenting opportunities for them to participate in research while integrating teaching and research at various levels of experience and expertise which allows undergraduates to develop the capacity for discovery through research.
COMPETITION GUIDELINES
i)Entry Category
Individual or Group (no limit to group size)
ii)Eligibility
Full-time matriculated undergraduates (including Honours students) at NUS.
iii)Project Type
Credit-gaining coursework-based projects (e.g PPP, UROPS, Honours project, etc.)or independent non-credit-gaining non-coursework-based projects that are completed within AY2014/2015
iv)Evaluation Criteria
-Originality and significance of the project
-Clear understanding of the field
-Evidence of critical and independent thinking
-Other points of merit on the project
Value and Type of Prize for Winners
Winner Category / PrizesIndividual / S$2000* per prize and certificate
Group (unlimited group size) / S$5000* per prize and certificate
* Please note that the prizes awarded must be used towards participation in related activities or programmes which includes overseas/local conferences/workshops, leadership seminars or any such related activity approved by the Faculty/School that are deemed to add value to a student’s education and overall development. However, winners of this competition who are students in their graduating semester will be allowed to receive the cash prize directly.
Submission Deadline and Details
Please complete Sections A (by students) andB (by project supervisor) of the form and submit it together with the full research project report (including abstract) and a photograph of yourself to your home department. Submission deadline is on 10th April 2015.
Note:
-The form, project report and abstract should be submitted in both hardcopy and softcopy (in both PDF and Word format).
-The photograph should be submitted in soft copy only (only JPEG format is accepted).
-Please submit the softcopies and photograph in a CD-ROM.
If you are unable to submit the finalized full report by this deadline, please submit to us a best draft of your final report with your important findings.
Science Dean’s Office will notify OURP winners via email in June 2015.
