Chapter 1: God Reveals Himself Through His Son
-God reveals himself to us because he loves us; He wants us to come to know him better so that we will love him more
-God reveals himself through The Holy Trinity

- God had three persons:
- Father – God the Father protects us
- Son – Jesus was the “flesh” on Earth

Chapter 2: God Speaks to Us in Scripture
-God reveals himself to us in Scripture
-We call the Bible “Sacred Scripture”, which means “holy writings”
-God inspired, worked within the minds of, the Scripture writers. This is why we believe the Scripture is the written Word of God
-The Bible is separated into two parts:
- Old Testament
- Tells what God did for his people before Jesus came
- “Chosen people” = The Hebrews
- Prophets were people sent by God to teach his Chosen people
- In the Book of Psalms, a book in the Old Testament, God teaches his people how to pray.
- Psalms = songs/prayers of praise, thanksgiving, petition, and sorrow
- New Testament
- Tells about the words and deeds of Jesus and the early Church
- Four Gospels written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
- Gospel = “Good News” of Jesus who offers us eternal life
- Acts of the Apostles- tells how the Holy Spirit guided the early Church
- Luke is the author
- Letters written to the early Christians about Jesus
- Written by Peter, Paul, James, and John
- Book of Revelation- last book of the New Testament; tells of a prophet named John who talks about the glories of God’s kingdom
-The message of Scripture is that God loves us
-The last book of the New Testamentis called the Book of Revelation.

Chapter 3: God Speaks to Us Through the Church
-Church = the people of God
-Catholics are baptized members of the Church who believe in Jesus and follow the leadership of the pope and bishops
-Messiah is the promised one that God sent to save the word (Jesus)
-God speaks to us through the Church and the Church leaders
-The Holy Spirit guides the Church
-Everyone in Church must spread the Good News
-Jesus calls Peter his rock on which he will BUILD his Church
-Peter believed that Jesus was truly the Messiah
-Jesus gave special teaching authorities to Peter (and to every Church leader)
- Peter became the first pope
-When the Pope speaks as the visible head of the Church, Jesus speaks

We have power in the Church because we can spread the Good News of God by loving and serving others.
-Caring for God’s creation is serving God. Visiting an elderly person, collecting canned goods for those who are needy, and planting trees are just a few ways to serve God’s kingdom.
-The Good News of God – GOD LOVES US
-He lovesus so much, that he sent Jesus to be our savior.
