Welcome to the sixth edition of our transition newsletter.
Transition Steering Group Update
The Transition Steering Group (TSG)will meet again on Monday 6 February and the sub group will meet on Wednesday 18 January to continue planning the end of year celebration. We will update you on both of these meetings in our February Transition Newsletter and let you know more about some of the joint activities the children have been involved in.
Appointment of Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher of St. Clare’s Primary
As you are aware, Mrs Absolom was appointed Head Teacher of St. Clare’s Primary on Tuesday 13 December 2016. Mrs Absolom has already met pupils and staff in St. Cadoc’s, met with the Pupil Council prior to the uniform consultation, joined the pupil assembliesand attended a cluster management group meeting. Be rest assured that Mrs Absolom and I will be working very closely over the coming months and Mrs Absolom will spend time in St. Cadoc’s including attending TSG meetings and joining some of the planned pupil activities.
I am delighted to confirm that the Depute Head Teacher will be Catherine Callaghan. Catherine is due to return to St. Cadoc’s from maternity leave in May 2017 and will take up her new appointment at St. Clare’s in August 2017.
P1 Application Week
Applications for Primary 1 for both St. Cadoc’s and St. Clare’s will take place at St. Cadoc’s Primary every afternoon from Monday 16 till Friday 20 January 2017. Both Mrs Absolom and I will be present throughout this week to meet with parents.
St. Clare’s Primary Catchment Letter
As detailed in our December newsletter,following parental requests, thedate for responses was extended until Friday 20 January 2017 forparents/carers whose residence is associated with St. Clare’s Primary School to confirm which school (St. Cadoc’s or St. Clare’s Primary) they wish their child(ren) to attend from August 2017. As you know, thenew date aligns with the Primary 1 Application Week. Parents/carers wishing to change their decision from that submitted on 18 November 2016 should contact St. Cadoc’s Primary.
Head Teacher Drop-in
We have planned a number of drop-in sessions where both myself and Mrs Absolom will be available to speak with parents regarding their child’s transition to St. Clare’s. Please do not hesitate to drop into St.Cadoc’s between 9a.m. and 10a.m. on the following dates:
- Tuesday 31 January
- Tuesday 7 February
- Tuesday 21 February
- Tuesday 28 February.
Pupil Consultation –St. Clare’sUniform
The Pupil Council did a fantastic jobdesigningfour school badges and ties which were presented to the whole school during assemblies on Thursday 12 January.
All pupils in the school were provided with an opportunity to vote for their preferred design and they overwhelmingly chose thebadge and tie below. The badge will include the Latin translation for ‘Love God, Serve God’underneath the school name as this is associated with St. Clare.
In addition to the badge and tie designs, the following items of uniform for St. Clare’sinclude:
- Black blazer
- White shirt
- White polo shirt
- Grey jumper
- Grey sweatshirt
- Grey trousers
- Black shoes.
Both myself and Mrs Absolom were very impressed with the leadership of the Pupil Council and are delighted with the outcome of the pupil consultation.
During these assemblies, pupils also voted to formally include the following items as part of St. Cadoc’s uniform:
- Red cardigan
- Grey pullover (red and white striped V-neck)
- Red and white summer gingham dress.
Resilience Programme
The parent information session on Resilience which was scheduled for Wednesday 25 January 2017 will now take place on Monday 20 February at 7p.m. This will be delivered by Jennifer Hunter, Educational Psychologist, and further details will follow.
