COMMUNITY JUSTICE PROGRAMME COORDINATOR

The Odawa Friendship Centre is now accepting letters of application and resumes for the position of the Odawa Aboriginal Community Justice Programme Coordinator under the direction of the Executive Director.

The Odawa Aboriginal Community Justice Programme will be administered from the Odawa Native Friendship Centre and will work with Aboriginal offenders charged with a variety of criminal offences in effort to address the root cause of a person’s criminal behavior. This programme will utilize traditional concepts of justice and address the needs of victims and offenders in a holistic manner.

The person hired for this position will be responsible for the implementation and development of this programme as well as the on-going operation and maintenance of this initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Graduation from, or extensive work related experience in, the following fields - Aboriginal Community Justice, Alternative Justice, Law, Criminology, Law and Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services;

·  Excellent oral and written communication skills;

·  Knowledge of computers and various applications (word processing, database programmes, internet, email);

·  Ability to implement, develop and maintain a new programme;

·  Knowledge of aboriginal community Justice Concepts and Alternative Justice Programmes and concepts;

·  Knowledge of the Canadian justice system;

·  Knowledge of Legislation, Commissions, Inquiries and cases relevant to Aboriginal Justice issues and programmes;

·  Ability to recruit, train and supervise volunteers/staff;

·  Knowledge of Aboriginal culture;

·  Knowledge of the issues affecting Aboriginal persons;

·  Knowledge of community resources;

·  Ability to conduct public speaking engagements;

·  Ability to work flexible hours;

·  Ability to work under pressure;

·  Ability to travel;

·  Ability to meet deadlines; and

·  Ability to speak the local Aboriginal language an asset.

·  Provide a current Police Records Check

·  Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle an asset.
