SUBJECT: Tax Credit

We are closing in on the end of the calendar year, that means school recess, family activities and oh yes tax time. In the state of Arizona they have a program for tax payers to get a credit for their taxes. It is commonly referred to as the AZ Extra-Curricular Tax Credit. It works in this manner.

Those filing AZ taxes as Single or Head of Household may make a contribution of up to $200 a calendar year

Those filing AZ taxes as Married, filing jointly may make a contribution of up to $400 a calendar year

If you have a tax liability (you owe) your contribution will be credited toward that liability. Or you may receive that money back if you are due a refund. In other words you can decrease your tax debt or increase the amount of your refund.

The HHS AFJROTC program benefits greatly from assets in our AZ tax credit account. The funds can be used for all aspects of field trips except food. It has been used for, incentive flights for the ground school, field trips to ASU Poly Technic, Falcon Field, andSummer Leadership School in Sierra Vista. It pays for entry fees to museums, orienteering and model rocketry events plus transportation to and from extracurricular events. Tax credit can even purchase color guard equipment and other AFJROTC related items for extracurricular use.

FromNovember 25 until December 31st, The HHS AFJROTC is sponsoring a tax credit drive. We are hoping to raise $20,000. Obviously breaking that goal would be phenomenal but we understand there may be constraints such as, families with multiple children enrolled in various public schools or other life events that occur. We are encouraging each cadet to speak with as many AZ tax paying relatives as possible, aunts, uncles, grandparents and the like, to bolster our account for activities planned for the next calendar year.

When you do make the contribution you can do it on line, at the district office, the HHS, office or have your cadet bring it AFJROTC. Whichever you choose please send a copy of the receipt with your cadet to us. The corps will be offering prizes for the cadet who brings in the most contributions.

Please consider contributing generously. This is a win situation for all. You contribute “X” amount of dollars and then on your tax return you recoup that same amount. The AZ Extra-Curricular Tax Credit is indeed a unique program that benefits families, schools, students and oh yes, your wallet.

If you have comments or concerns I can be reached at 883-5205. You may also utilize the link below to learn more about the tax credit and contribute on line or download the form. Be sure to direct your contribution to HHS AFJROTC.
