Whittier College provides confidential assistance for victims and survivors of sexual misconduct. TheCounseling Center provides in-office support form 8 AM - 5 PM (562-907-4239) and 24-hour crisis support (562-907-4911) and Project Sister provides 24-hour advocacy and guidance regarding medical assistance and reporting (909-626-4357).

In addition, the Whittier College Support Person Program can provide non-judgmental support, accompaniment, advising, and information about the process of reporting. Support People are private, meaning they will not disclose any identifying information to the College. They are listed online at or can be accessed through the Dean of Student’s Office (562-907-4233).

Please be aware of the following policy regarding confidentiality and disclosures of incidents of sexual misconduct:

In the event that you choose to write or speak about having survived sexual assault, rape, harassment, stalking, or dating/domestic violence, and you specify that this violence occurred while you were a Whittier College student, I may be required to notify Whittier College’s Title IX Coordinator, Cynthia Joseph. She will contact you to let you know about reporting, accommodations, and support services at Whittier College.

If you do not want the Title IX Coordinator notified, instead of disclosing to me as your instructor, you can speak privately with the Whittier College Support Person Program (562-907-4233), the Counseling Center (562-907-4239 or 562-907-4911 after hours), or Project Sister (909-626-4357).

ADDITIONAL NOTE TO BE USED BY COURSES THAT DIRECTLY ADDRESS THESE TOPICS:

In this class, the topics of sexual assault, rape, stalking, or dating/domestic violencewill emerge in readings, films, and class discussions. Making connections with the topics studied can be meaningful and important and can trigger strong feelings. If you are worried about your ability to cope with feelings evoked by readings, films, and class discussions about sexual assault, rape, stalking, or dating/domestic violence, please discuss this as soon as possible with your instructor, the Dean of Students Office (562-907-4233), or Disability Services (562-907-4825).
