ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the Paint Tacoma-Pierce Beautiful program, which provides free exterior house painting for low-income homeowners during the summer months. The painting labor is provided by volunteers and/or friends and family members of the homeowner.
This position will include:
1)  Assisting with the assessment and selection of houses for Paint Tacoma projects.
2)  Training and supporting volunteers.
3)  Building relationships with painting & home improvement experts, participating homeowners, and other organizations.
4)  Other duties as assigned.
This job is temporary (late May/early June into September) and part-time (20-25 hours per week average). Some weekend and evening work may be required.

TASKS
Job responsibilities include:
Assisting with the assessment and selection of houses for Paint Tacoma projects:
1.  Assist with assessing homeowner eligibility and the suitability of houses for the program.
2.  Help plan and participate in Paint Tacoma Advisory Board meetings.
3.  Whenever possible, visit the homeowner with the volunteer crew leader to review the project plan.
4.  Identify manageable challenges with completing home painting projects, and strategies and supports needed so that volunteer crews can handle those challenges.
Training and Supporting Volunteers
1.  Respond to questions from potential volunteers
2.  Help assign volunteers & volunteer crews to houses that fit their skill levels and interests.
3.  Help lead training workshops for crew leaders (who may be volunteers and/or family members), covering issues such as safety, supplies, basic painting skills, and managing crews.
4.  Provide additional support and troubleshoot if volunteers and volunteer crews run into any difficulties in completing house painting projects.
5.  As needed, provide direct supervision for youth crews (crews of middle school, high school, or college age youth).
Relationship Building
1.  Develop relationships with painting and home improvement experts to turn to for advice and guidance.
2.  As needed, get to know participating homeowners and address their concerns.
Other Duties
1.  Occasionally help with administrative support for Paint Tacoma.
2.  Manage Paint Tacoma supply inventory, and make purchase requests for paint and other supplies as needed.
3.  Help identify resources for other services needed by homeowners (such as home repair).
4.  Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS and WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
House Painting
1.  Must understand and be able to perform standard exterior prep and painting procedures, with attention to safety standards and procedures.
2.  Sufficient experience with exterior house painting to be able to teach others. Experience with home repair work a plus but not required.
3.  Lead paint certification a plus.
4.  Physical Requirement: must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds (5-gallon paint bucket).
Personal Qualities
1.  Familiarity with and sensitivity to the constituency, as well as volunteers, of Associated Ministries, including diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
2.  Good people skills; able to train and support people with different skill levels and backgrounds.
3.  Prior experience working with youth.
4.  Strong time management skills.
5.  Flexibility and ability to be a creative problem solver.
6.  Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
7.  Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
8.  Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
At least two years of relevant work experience required.
EQUIPMENT USED (provided by Associated Ministries)
·  As needed, desktop and /or laptop computer, photocopiers and other office equipment.
·  Supplies and equipment needed for exterior house painting, such as pressure washers and ladders.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Rate Range: $14.21 - $15.80/hour
