--Work needs to be in your own words. Do not copy and paste someone else’s work/words and claim them as your own.

1. Poster—large poster board or foam board (NO tri-boards)

Using a poster board (any color), construct a biome (land or water). Include plants and animals that you

would find in that particular biome. Include the following:

s Title (5 pts)

s At least 5 animal species (include names) found in your chosen biome (pictures) (10 pts)

s At least 5 plant species (include names) found in your chosen biome (pictures) (10 pts)

s The average temperature (winter/summer) (5pts)

s The average yearly rainfall/precipitation (5pts)

s A food web (minimum of 8 organisms) that occurs in your chosen biome (10 pts)

s An energy pyramid that represents your biome (producers, primary/secondary consumers and any tertiary consumers) (5 pts)

s A world map that shows where your chosen biome is located (5 pts)

s All sources must be written (or typed and glued) on the back of the poster (5 pts)

s Name, class and date must be on the back of the poster (5 pts)

s Explain environmental issues that impact your biome (5 pts)

s Endangered species—list at least 1 species on your poster (5 pts)

s Invasive species---list at least 1 species on your poster (5 pts)

s Neatness of product and overall appearance (20 pts)

2. Biome in a Box

Students will create a three-dimensional model of a biome using a box (shoebox or similar size box).

w All inside walls of the box should be decorated (painted, collage of pictures, etc.) to represent the overall appearance of the biome that you have chosen. (10 pts)

w Cover the outside of the box to continue the overall appearance of your biome (example: If a student is creating a desert biome, the student could cover the exterior of the box with brown paper to continue the theme or might even paint the exterior of the box to look like sand.) (10 pts)

w Include 3 animals that represent the biome (10 pts)

w Include 3 plants that represent the biome (10 pts)

w Tape or glue a world map showing where your biome is located to the outside of the box (right side) (5 pts)

w Tape or glue a food web (6 organisms) of your biome to the outside of the box (left side) (5 pts)

w Title: create a stand-up title that is attached to the top of the box---continue the theme of the biome in the title (5 pts)

w Back exterior of box---Name & Class period on back of box (5 pts)

w Back exterior of box---Explain any environmental issues that are impacting your biome (5 pts)

w Back exterior of box---All sources must be written/typed (glued) on the back of the box (5 pts)

w Endangered species—list at least 1 endangered species on back of the box (5 pts)

w Invasive species---list at least 1 species on back of the box (5 pts)
