THEMES OF THE CONFERENCE

The International Biennial on Negotiation is a scientific congress first organised in 2003 by NEGOCIA, which became NOVANCIA BUSINESS SCHOOL PARIS in November 2011. The conference serves as a forum for internationally renowned specialists in negotiation, both academics and practitioners, to exchange ideas about their practices and research.

The 5th edition of the International Biennial on Negotiation invites researchers and practitioners in the field to address proposals for papers, round tables and simulations in all areas of negotiation, particularly international, commercial, diplomatic, economic, social, cultural, and environmental negotiation. A multidisciplinary approach is strongly encouraged.

Although the following themes are suggested, it should be borne in mind that the conference is open to all other proposals:

TRANSVERSAL NEGOCIATION THEMES

  • power of negotiation: symmetry and asymmetry
  • negotiation processes: pre-negotiation, negotiation, actors, conclusion
  • strategies and tactics
  • theory and research methodology
  • negotiation and pedagogy: role play, simulation, training
  • bilateral/multilateral negotiation
  • negotiation and game theory
  • negotiation and verbal and non-verbal communication
  • e-negotiation

INTERNATIONALNEGOCIATION

  • impact of political conflicts between nations on commercial negotiations (Iran, European Union, North Korea)
  • negotiation and international mediation in political conflicts
  • negotiation between multinationals and governments focusing on the resolution of economic differences and the harmonisation of positions in international conferences
  • negotiation and emerging markets
  • negotiations between enterprises, government, social partners, consumer groups and environmental groups affecting international trade
  • international trade, piracy and terrorism
  • negotiation and the development of international trade (acquisitions and mergers, joint ventures)
  • inter-cultural negotiation

SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL NEGOCIATION

INTRA- AND INTER-ENTERPRISE NEGOCIATION

  • negotiation between public and private actors (multinational companies, NGOs, associations, rebel movements, local powers, etc.).

MEDIATION

  • mediation, arbitrage and conciliation
  • law, conflict management, and international commercial contracts
  • mediation and reconciliation in political conflicts.

SCHEDULE

  • deadline for proposals for papers → June 24, 2013
  • replies sent to authors → July 15, 2013
  • reception of complete papers → September 30, 2013
  • replies sent to authors → November 8, 2013
  • registration → November 8, 2013

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Proposals for papers, as well as complete papers are to be submitted through the following website:

  • proposals for papers must be no more than one page long or 500 words
  • complete papers must be no longer than 15 pages or 6,600 words, including tables, figures, bibliography and appendices
  • the first page must include the following information: the title of the paper, the name(s) and surnames(s) of the author or authors, function, institution, postal address, email, telephone
  • the second page must include an abstract in French and English and a list of key words (no more than 5) in both languages
  • the file must include the initial (or initials) of the name and surname of the primary author. For example, the file name for Arnaud Dupont would be adupont.doc
  • papers must be presented in the following format: Word/PC, Times New Roman 12, A4, page numbering, interline1.5
  • Authors must write their papers in either English or French, the two official languages of the Biennial
  • All papers will be assessed anonymously by two different reviewers.

“YOUNG RESEARCHER”PRIZE

Young researchers are encouraged to take part in the 5th International Biennial on Negotiation. A €1,500 prize was introduced in 2010 for the best research paper presented by a graduate student. The President of the Jury will examine applications and present the prize to the winner at the conference. All young researchers competing for the prize will provide a copy of their complete paper, respecting the criteria defined for papers presented at the conference. If authors would like to both compete for the prize and present their paper in a workshop, they must stipulate this in a cover note.

In all four preceding editions of the Biennial, studies and articles presented at the conference have been published either in a collective work or in special issues of one or more journals:

Scientific work presented at the 5th Biennial will be published in partner academic journals.
