To the Student Loan Applicant:
The Mercer County Civic Foundation is a countywide community foundation. A number of our funds were established to make small loans to MercerCountyHigh School Students for accredited college/university/tech school study. Funds available to students will vary each year, depending on new gifts, investment gains, and how many prior loan repayments have been received.
Enclosed is an application for a student loan. The Board of Directors meets in mid summer to determine how many loans can be made. You will be notified after this meeting about the status of your loan application.
Please be aware of the following points:
1. Loan repayments begin six (6) months after graduation.
2. If you drop out of school, repayments must begin ninety (90) days after failure to enroll in the next quarter/semester.
3. All loans are interest-free until six (6) months after graduation. You will be notified when your loan is due to begin repayment. If you choose to repay the entire loan within the 6 months grace period, no interest will be charged. If you wish to repay on a regular monthly schedule after that time, you will receive a payment book. The interest rate charged will be 4%, still well below the current federal student loan rate.
Students are limited to loans of $1,500/year for four (4) years of undergraduate study only. We make commitments for only one year at a time. If you want an additional loan for next year, we ask that you return a short renewal application by June 15 of next year.
We hope this letter and application together answer your questions about the student loan program. Please call our office if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Carol A. Hone
