Note: Please obtain email agreements from all examiners and attach it with this form. The following (in softcopies) are to be submitted to the school for processing at least 3 months before thesis submission:

  1. This Appointment of Examiners Form.
  2. Email agreement from University Examiner, Examiner 2, Examiner 3, and all Oral Panel Members.
  3. Completed and Signed Letter of Invitation and Undertaking for all External Examiners.
  4. CV of External Examiners.
  5. Alumni Registration and Survey Form
  6. Both the external examiners should not be from (1) local institutions only (2) the same overseas university (3) research institutions only (without any academic affiliation or prior Ph.D. supervision experience) (4) universities of low international ranking
  7. The external examiner should be an academic staff with good international standing in his/her field of research. He/she should preferably be a senior faculty staff of the rank of Associate Professor or full Professor from a top university or a senior researcher in an international research institution.
  8. Both of the two external examiners cannot be from research organizations only. At least one of the external examiners should be from an internationally recognized reputable university.
  9. Visiting Professors may be appointed as external examiners provided they have already left NTU when the thesis is ready for examination.

1.I hereby acknowledge that during my participation as an examiner of the above PhD Student’s qualifying exam that the PhD Student may present or disclose to me certain confidential information, patents, patent applications, patent drafts, copyright material, know-how, technical information, operational procedures, methods, techniques, procedures, experiments, results, plans of future research, and any other information relating to the activities and research carried on by NTU and the PhD Student, all of which are strictly confidential or proprietary to NTU (“Confidential Information”)

2.I undertake at all times to maintain strictly secret and confidential and not directly or indirectly use or disclose or divulge the said thesis and Confidential Information or any part thereof, to any person, firm or company, whatsoever without your prior written consent.

3.The preceding obligations of confidentiality shall not apply with respect to any information that:-

3.1is or was already known to me at the time of disclosure to it as evidenced by written records, or

3.2is at the time of disclosure or thereafter becomes public knowledge through no fault or omission of myself; or

3.3is lawfully obtained by myself from a third party who is not under any confidentiality obligation to NTU; or

3.4is independently developed by myself as evidenced by written record.

4. I will not make or retain any copies of the said thesis and Confidential Information or otherwise disseminate the same without your prior written consent. Upon request from NTU, I shall promptly return to NTU all documents containing Confidential Information and all copies and reproductions thereof.

5. This Agreement sets forth the entire agreement and understanding between NTU and myself as to the subject matter hereof, and none of the terms of this Agreement shall be amended or modified except in writing signed by NTU and myself.

6. This Undertaking shall be governed and construed in accordance with Singapore laws and I submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore courts.
