Hair Battle “Masquerade”
January 12, 2016
Contact: Ms. Francine Lewis
Students from all over Houston will engage in an epic hair showdown at HISD’s Barbara Jordan High School, where the cosmetology department will host its 19th annual Hair Battle Masquerade, Tuesday, January 12th. The event is ticketed, with admissions on presale and at the door.
Cosmetology students will participate in three categories: Daytime, Evening and Fantasy (which has been a fan and contestants-favorite category). The students must go through a series of various designs and feasibility studies in order to come up with challenging, as well as aesthetically pleasing, hairstyles. Some students may follow current trends, or borrow from historical hair fashions, while others release their imaginations to create an artistic original look.
Houston area professional stylists will judge the various categories. The panel looks for a variety of elements to evaluate how well the students execute their hairstyles. The hairstylists should demonstrate their ability to assemble a functional style while providing a creative flare. Scores are tabulated, revealing the winners of each category. Winners take home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in each of the three categories.
This year, Jordan is especially excited about the joining of forces with Kashmere Senior High School. The two schools have formed a wonderful collaboration, BJHSC’s cosmetology and culinary departments partnered with Community Based Vocational Instruction, Office of Special Education Services to provide special services for our disabled students. The continual collaboration with the Juli C. Hester House that services our senior citizens is another wonderful partnership that Jordan is also delighted about. We are pleased to announce we have the opportunity to feature these two wonderful associations at the 2016 Hair Show.
The event is supported by the Jordan’s School of Communication, Drafting, Welding, Engineering and Art Department that help to put together staging, decorations, and video broadcasting. Students manage the production’s flow of traffic and logistics with the likes of large professional events.
Barbara Jordan’s Cosmetology program is involved in many events throughout the year, which challenges the students’ skill level and professional attitudes as they eventually strive to pass their state exams to become licensed hairstylists. Come Tuesday, January 12th, all gloves are coming off for this serious event as Jordan High School, as well as many other cosmetology students throughout the Houston area log countless hours in pursuit of the victory and title of “Best in Show”.
We welcome you all to come out and be a part of this great event while supporting these talented students in their endeavors. Feel free to contact me for additional questions as well as presale tickets.
