THEWILTON FIELD HOCKEY ASSOCIATION is pleased to offer 2007 Fall Wilton Youth Field Hockey Program

All Wilton girls entering grades 4th through 8th in Fall 2007 are invited to participate in the

2007 Fall Wilton Youth Field Hockey Program.

INTRAMURAL LEAGUES:

The intramural leagues are divided into the following levels:

  • Fourth Grade
  • Fifth and Sixth Grade
  • Seventh and Eighth Grade

The purpose of the Intramural League is to teach the fundamental skills and rules of Field Hockey, and to give the players a love of the game. No prior experience is necessary. During games and practices, the coaches strive to provide equal attention and playing time to all players, regardless of skill level.

PRACTICES: The first practice for all grades will be Saturday, September 8th. The actual time and location of this practice at Wilton High School will be posted on the WFHA website, , and click on the Wilton Youth Field Hockey link, in September. Team assignments will be completed in early September, and your coach will contact you no later than September 5th with information about the first practice and specific team assignment.

There will be weekly practices of 1 hour for 4-6 grade & 1 ½ hours for 7/8th grade between the following hours, Field TBD (see website in September):

4th Grade:Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00pm.

5th & 6th Grade: Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00pm.

7th & 8th Grade: Monday from 5:00 – 7:00pm

Please note, as we get into late October, practice times may be moved up a bit in deference to diminishing daylight. There may be occasional changes to the weekly practice schedules, depending on the availability of Turf/Lighted Field times for the various leagues. All changes will be posted on the website in September, and updated throughout the season.

GAMES: Games will be played Saturday mornings. Games will not be scheduled on October 6th (Columbus Weekend); however, teams may choose to schedule a friendly scrimmage or practice. The number of intramural teams will be dependent upon the number of player registrations and parent/volunteer support. Our season will begin with practices the week September 8th).

VOLUNTEERS: The success of the Wilton Youth Field Hockey Program is made possible by the support of volunteers. It is now required that each family sign up for volunteer duty at registration on June 2nd. These duties may include coaching, managing a team or league, registration or various other jobs that do not require any prior FH experience or knowledge. The youth program is a very popular activity and in order to insure its continued growth and success everyone should consider becoming involved in some way. For those interested in coaching, no experience is necessary, and dads as well as moms are welcome! The WFHA will provide coaches training sessions late August/early September, prior to the start of the season.

EQUIPMENT: Players must furnish their own sticks, shin guards, 2 mouth guards, cleats & eye guards. Lax goggles are fine. Anyone without this equipment at practices & games will be excluded from playing without exception. Team shirts & shorts are provided to each player.

TRAVEL TEAM: The Travel Team program is offered to 7th and 8th grade players who are interested in developing their skills further by competing against teams from other communities. At least one prior season of field or ice hockey play is necessary for travel-level players, since practices and games will focus on advanced skills and play. Should the 7th and 8th grade teams be not have sufficient players in any grade level, there may be an on-field evaluation of all interested players (date TBA) in the Fall to balance teams. Travel Team players must also participate fully in the Intramural Program to remain eligible for the Travel Team

Practice: Thursday, for 1 ½ hour between the times of 5:00 – 7:00pm, Field locations TBD

Games: Games will primarily be scheduled on Sunday afternoons. The Travel Team will also participate in at least two Jamborees, which may be scheduled at other times TBD. Wilton’s Travel FH Team is a member of the Fairfield County Field Hockey Association. Check out their website at to get a better understanding of the league and its goals.
