UCW Committee Meeting: September 22, 2016, 11:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

I.  Introductions of new and returning members.

II.  Maggie provided an overview of issues that UCW has addressed including10-year reports, LAS college report. Need to align with strategic goals. Look at history of women on campus.

III.  Kate Gregory the new Senior V.P. of Business and Finance talked about her background and her new office at Iowa State University.

A.  Believes that women’s issues are now in the second or third phase. Issues are deeper than at the beginning of her career.

B.  She started in the Naval Academy just as women were being introduced into the Navy. 3rd class of females in 1982. At that time opportunities were limited for women – ships that women served on never left so she went to the civil engineer core. Then public works office. Her last job was as the head engineer for Navy. Retired after 34 years.

C.  She explained that the position formerly held by Warren Madden has been split into two, with Miles Lackey in charge of Finance. She is in charge of university service. Her four priorities are performance, safety, customer satisfaction and transparency.

D.  She is working with Reg Stewart to develop the new campus climate survey.

IV.  Following Kate’s talk, members talked about reports that have been done and are in the process of being done regarding salary equity and climate issues.

a.  P&S study was mentioned as well as the 12/1 deadline to meet HSA regulations.

b.  People urged the importance of transparency and expressed concerns that the issues brought up in previous climate surveys had not been addressed.

V.  Lora-Leigh Crystal gave an overview of the key concerns for women brought up at the UCW/WLC retreat: Salary equity, lack of resources for women’s and gender programs, leadership at all levels and safety.

Way-Up conference mentioned with an invite to a member to join Sandy in November.Workshop sub-committee organized to help Heather in the spring which includes Nick, Lora-Leigh and Maria. Nick will help with advertising.
