NEW PROJECT OF HMDA “MEDTECH VALLEY” LAUNCHED

In the valedictory function of Bio Asia 2010 Conference held on 06.02.2010, Shri E.S.L Narasimhan, His Excellency, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, unveiled the logo of “MedTech Valley” to be developed by HMDA, in the outskirts of Hyderabad as a cluster for manufacturing of Medical devices and diagnostic equipments. In the first phase, an area of 200 Acres will be developed by HMDA, adjacent to the BITS (Pilani), Hyderabad Campus and Army Dental College. This cluster would attract investors from India, as well as abroad, in manufacturing of Medical devices and equipments etc. and would provide world class infrastructure for the growth of this sector in our State. Located at Jawaharnagar near Shameerpet the area is in close proximity to the Biotech cluster in Genome Valley, which would help in achieving synergies between the Medical devices cluster and the Life Science Cluster. Several MedTech manufacturing companies such as, Johnson and Johnson, Siemens have already evinced interest to invest in India and this initiative of HMDA makes Andhra Pradesh the front-runner in this sector. A total area of 1200 Acres has been earmarked for this purpose, out of the land already available with HMDA in Jawaharnagar. Social infrastructures, such as, affordable housing, educational institutions, hospitals and facilities for medical tourism, as well as connectivity through Outer Ring Road would also support the project.

Shri. Ashok Kumar, Secretary Pharmaceuticals, Government of India who was present on the occasion assured assistance from Government of India in building infrastructure and common facilities for this sector in ‘MedTech Valley’. His Excellency the Governor asked Shri B.P.Acharya, Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA to ensure expeditious grounding of the project, so as to attract investments in the State

Dr. V.M. Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr. Seyed E. Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, Dr. Ajit Shetty, Corporate Vice President of Johnson Johnson, USA and Dr. Manel Balcells, President of Biocat, Barcelona were among the dignitaries present on the occassion.
