Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: Five Fat Sausages

Learning Outcome:
Students will be able to count from 1-10. Students will practice fine motor skills by playing with play dough.
Target Language:
Numbers: 1 – 10
Words: currant bun, hot, round
Introduction to Topic:
Circle Time: Register and Songs
Theme Introduction: Print a copy of (Attachment 1) and cut them out. Print a copy of (Attachment 1). Hide the sausages around the classroom except for one. Put the pan/cut out of pan in the middle of the circle. Show the students the sausage and tell them what it is. Tell them that you’ve hidden some sausages in the classroom. Let them find one sausage. When they’ve found one, let them sit back in the circle. Put a big pan (brought from home) or bag in the middle of the circle. Give each student a chance to put their sausage in the pan/pan cut out. Now, count how many sausages are in your basket/bag by packing them out on the floor whilst counting with the students.

*Demonstrate craft and display.
Main Activity:
Craft 1: 5 Fat Sausages in a pan – Print a copy of pan and sausages (Attachment 3) for each student. Let them paint or colour the pan and sausages. Let students stick 5 sausages on their pan.
Craft 2: Number 5 – Print a copy of the number 5 template (Attachment 4) for each student on A3 card. Let them colour the number and stick different things on the number. For instance: 5 buttons, 5 pieces of coloured paper, 5 pompoms etc.
Craft 3: Sausage tasting – Before lesson starts, cook 2 different sausages. (For instance pork sausages & fritters) Let the students taste the different sausages.
Sensory Play:
Make playdough from recipes in the Resource book. Let students play, rolling the playdough between the table and their hand, how long can they make the sausage. Roll sausages of different sizes.
Game/Movement Activity:
Hide the pictures of the sausages under a parachute. When you lift the parachute the students try to get as many sausages as they can and put it on top of the parachute. Sing the song whilst moving the parachute up and down so that the sausages will be sizzling, ( moving up and down on the parachute).
Extension Activity for 2+yrs:
Sticking pans on card according to size. From smallest to biggest.
