Short Story Project

100 Points Possible

Directions: Choose two of the assignments to complete. Each assignment is worth 50 points. EXTRA CREDIT – Choose a third project for 10 points extra credit.

1.  Choose any one of the short stories we have read and complete the plot map. You must complete every part of the plot map. (50 Points)

2.  Rewrite one of the short stories from a different character’s point of view or change the point of view from first person to third person or from third to first.

3.  Create a cartoon strip of any of the short stories we’ve read. You should include all of the major elements of plot in the story (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution). Be sure you have dialogue. (At least 10 frames)

4.  Write an additional chapter (2 to 4 pages) for any of the short stories we’ve read.

5.  Imagine that one of the short stories is made into a movie. Create a movie poster for any short story we’ve read. Your poster should reflect the conflicts and themes of the story. You should also include the title, author, and characters on your poster. Choose modern day actors to portray the characters in the story and list those on the poster as well. On the poster (front or back), write a paragraph explaining why someone should go see the movie. (Paragraph should be 8 sentences long, following the perfect paragraph model)

6.  Pick two characters from any of the short stories we’ve read and create a compare/contrast graphic organizer for those two characters. You should have at least 5 similarities and 5 differences.

7.  Create a plot map for your OWN short story. You must complete every part of the plot map. On the back of the plot map, write a brief summary of your story (8 sentences long – following the perfect paragraph model).
