Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd. (IL&FS, http://www.ilfsindia.com ), is India’sleading Infrastructure Development & Financing Institution. Over the past 20 years, IL&FS has actively engaged with Central and State Governments, Private Sector Companies and Communities,todevelop and finance infrastructure projects on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Across a range of sectors, such as SurfaceTransport, Water and Waste-water, Energy, Telecom, Environment, E-Governance, Education, IL&FS has been able to establish replicable models of private sector ingenuity harnessedfor public purposes. This work has alsocontributed to the developmentof the policy environment in the country to support such initiatives.
Since the mid 1990’s, IL&FS has been governed under a comprehensive Environment andSocial PolicyFramework (ESPF) that underscores mainstreaming sustainability. More recently, the Board of Directors of IL&FS approved the establishment of the IL&FS Academy for Applied Development (IAAD). It is intended that IAAD serve as a vehicle to scale sustainabilityinitiatives that have passed the proof of concept stage and through this process stimulate innovation and leadership.
The McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environmental Partnership (MAGEEP, http://mageep.wustl.edu ) is a network of 28 Universities under the auspices of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy that is involved in research, education and operations in areas related to Energy, Environment and Sustainability. The mission is to collectively identify and collaboratively tackle important global energy and environmental challenges in an integrated and holistic manner. The goals are to: promote collaborative projects in various aspects of energy & environment with seed funding; be a forum for exchange of ideas and promoting interactions via International Symposia; explore opportunities for sustaining research collaborations by collaboratively funding initiatives; share educational experiences and best practices in campus operations.
IL&FS has established an endowed fund (IL&FS Endowed Fund for MAGEEP Visiting Scholars) at Washington University in St. Louis (WUStl) to create a Visiting Scholars Program. Visiting Scholars will be from MAGEEP Universities (see http://mageep.wustl.edu ) and IL&FS Group of companies and will spend about 3 months to work on a project related to Energy, Environment and Sustainability at Washington University under the direction of faculty from WUStL and personnel from IL&FS. The students will be involved in research and education related to energy, environment and sustainability, and continue work on return to the home institution. Travel expenses to and from St. Louis, and living expenses in St. Louis will be covered through a stipend.

The Visiting Scholar position is open to Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD students. IL&FS MAGEEP Visiting Scholar Application Requirements:
The application packet should contain the following items, all included in a single PDF, and sent via email by the due date to Professor Pratim Biswas, Chair of the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering, WUStl ( ) and Dr. Prasad Modak, Corporate Consultant , IL&FS and Adjunct Professor, IIT Bombay ( )
a) Cover letter clearly listing address, phone number, and email ID
b) Curriculum Vitae
c) Transcripts of course work (list titles of courses taken with credits and grades)
d) Four page research plan on a topic related to Energy, Environment and/or Sustainability that student would like to work on - stating past work done, proposed activities and work that may be carried out on return.
e) Two letters of recommendation
Requirements for Training:
a) Spend up to 3 months at Washington University in St. Louis working on a project under the supervision of MAGEEP Faculty
b) Comprehensive written report and a presentation prior to completion of stay
