Greetings from your Community Lay Director…
Well it’s that time of year again. Summer is wrapping up and the kids are either back to school or heading there soon. The kids are transitioning from the Summer slack-off mode to back to school mode with all its classes, sports and homework. Their brains and bodies are being challenged again after a Summer’s worth of sleeping late, watching television, texting and whatever kids do now.
For us parents, this should also be a time to challenge our heads, hearts and bodies. Many people skip church during the Summer and Bible studies far and few. We tend to go into a relaxed Summer mode of our own (a spiritual vacation). We skip our morning devotion, replace church with a trip or a Summer sport, and we tend to cut down on our prayer time. Although a season of rest is good for us, it’s never advisable to take a vacation away from God. I am ever so grateful that He is a 24/7 Lord who sticks with us throughout all four seasons. Imagine the destruction and devastation that Satan would inflict on the world and our lives if God took the summer off.
So take a new Fall surge of energy that comes with the cooler weather and our kids returning to school and tap into it. Make sure that you get up every Sunday morning to worship the Lord who created you, redeemed you and provides for you. He deserves at least one morning of our busy schedules. Beyond going to church each Sunday, that’s the bare bones minimum, there are Reunion and study groups that meet regular. Join up with one! Connect with other people and learn from their experiences and also share your own. It’s comforting to know that other people have struggled and continue to struggle with the same problems you face. These small group forums are a great way to get a biblical perspective on facing life’s challenges and hear about other people’s tactics and testimonies of God’s faithfulness. It’s not good to be alone, God created us to be in fellowship with other Christians.
Set aside some quiet time with the Lord each day. Get a good daily devotional to guide you through the Bible. Read the Bible each day and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Then spend some time in prayer – worshipping or simply talking to your Lord. He’s a 24/7 God remember? He’s always there for us and He wants to fellowship with you. There is no better time spent than one-on-one time with our Savior, Jesus.
So for all of us, kids and parents alike, it’s time to go back to school. Keeping God in the equation is a sure path way to a successful school year. Now go out there and be a good and prosperous student.
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

Greetings Emmaus Community!
Summer is here and fall is around the corner. They are my two favorite seasons of the year. Beautiful weather with lots to do outside, mowing the lawn, working in the garden, fishing, hunting, riding horses or ATV’s, motorcycle rides, vacations, children’s sports activities. I love it all! But if we are not careful we can let our time spend with Jesus and Church slip without really noticing.
Hebrews 10:23-25 says this: 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as in the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. Love for one another in Christ must show itself in works of love and gathering together in His name. If there ever was a time when believers needed to come together, it is today. Instead of chopping down each other, we need to draw together in love around the person of Christ. “Exhorting One Another.” God has something for a group that He will not give to any one individual. One of the reasons I teach the Word of God makes me feel selfish sometimes. It’s because God won’t let me grow in the knowledge of His word unless I share it. That’s why I love telling people about Jesus. We are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. If you have a Bible Study at your Church, be sure to go because there is a blessing for you there that you can’t get when you study by yourself. I am so grateful God put Emmaus in my life. It provides plenty of opportunity to gather together with Christian friends and fellowship the way God intended for us to do.
The fall walks are coming up and I’m so ready to see and fellowship with all my Emmaus brothers and sisters. This September marks the 10th anniversary of my walk, #34 table of Andrew (clap). Of my table, six of us are still very active in Emmaus and some of us have formed eternal friendships. There is nothing that can take the place of true fellowship in Christ Jesus. Are you still in contact with the people on your table? If not, this would be a good time to reach out and say “Hey lets meet up at the next sendoff, candlelight, or closing.” Be the one to make first contact, it could be a call someone has been needing to get. Our next gathering on August 16th is team dedication for the upcoming walks, call an Emmaus friend and make a date to come and support those who will be serving Christ on the September walks. Who knows, maybe you will run into an old friend there. I know I always do, His name is Jesus!!

CHILDCARE MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES STILL AVAILABLE
The Emmaus board has always tried to provide childcare for our monthly gatherings and special services during each walk. Over the years it has been hard at times to find volunteers to do this each month and the board feels that is a very important service to provide to our Emmaus family. To help with this issue the board has voted to offer this as a paying position to our youth groups in the community. This will give our youth groups a way to earn money for their youth camps, trips, Revivals or any need they may have. It does not matter the size of your youth group all that is needed is at least 2 adults from your church and 1 or more of your youth to come on your scheduled date and time. If your youth group is interested please e-mail me- and I will put your group in a spot.
Thank you!! Lisa Wilkerson, Emmaus childcare coordinator
