Job Title: Bus Supervisor (Donaldson Bus Center)

Supervises: School Bus Drivers

Salary Group: L

Term of Service: 11 months

Job Goal:

To supervise the daily operation of a bus driver team in an assigned area with the goal of providing the safest and most efficient transportation.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • assigns, supervises and inspects the work of the school bus drivers;
  • assists the center secretary in assigning buses for extracurricular activities;
  • periodically checks buses for mechanical defects;
  • monitors the safe operation of the buses;
  • monitors the efficient use of the buses and makes corrections to routes and schedules;
  • supervises drivers to ensure that department safety objectives are met
  • dispatches buses in response to special requests and emergencies;
  • files accident reports as necessary;
  • ensures safety standards are maintained in conformance with state and insurance regulations;
  • prepares and updates bus schedules and routes using the district’s computerized routing and scheduling program;
  • uses the District’s bus routing software in the most proficient manner to develop and monitor bus runs and routes;
  • assists in the recruitment and training of the school bus drivers;
  • develops a professional working relationship with school administrators to ensure cooperation among all parties in dealing with bus driver issues, discipline, runs, etc.;
  • schedules beginning of the year onsite support to schools for back to school nights, open houses, etc. in order to assist parents in school bus schedules;
  • evaluates bus drivers as necessary;
  • ensures that all drivers meet federal and state licensing laws and regulations;
  • periodically makes unscheduled visits to school and centers to insure that proper loading practices are adhered to;
  • investigates complaints from parents or the public concerning stops or the routing and scheduling of buses;
  • ensures thatdrivers are drug and alcohol tested when required by federal, state, and district laws or policies;
  • ensures positive employee relations through the utilization of appropriate and effective leadership and supervisory practices, and
  • performs other duties as directed by the bus center manager

Qualifications:

The person in this position should have the following credentials:

  • high school graduate with Associate’s degree in supervision preferred
  • four years of supervisory experience in a related field
  • minimum CDL class B South Carolina License
  • must be proficient with computers and Microsoft Office programs
  • must have excellent communicationskills-oral, listening, telephone,and written;
  • able to provide a wide range of complex and confidential administrative duties;
  • ableto respect and maintain confidentiality
  • must have excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • excellent paper and electronic filing knowledge and skills
  • must be self-motivated, responsible, and dependable
  • able to prepare technical documents from written drafts
  • must have exceptional customer-focused skills
  • able to evaluate the position, department needs, and current procedures to make appropriate changes that enhance services and outcomes
  • able to work independently and as a team member
