Reporting to: Head of Housing

Aim

  • Set up and deliver a consultancy service offering operational and strategic advice for orgnisations across the UK involved in preventing and tackling homelessness
  • Create a comprehensive set of materials and content to underpin the delivery of an excellent frontline local homelessness service
  • Identify other opportunities for commercial revenue through the offer of support, strategic advice, training and direct services

Dimension

  • Line management of Local Authority Best Practice Manager
  • Working initially in England but with the aim of developing services across the UK
  • Responsible for managing a budget and generating income

Circumstances

  • 35 hours per week
  • A significant degree of flexibility is required in delivering the service. Some evening and weekend work will be required and time of in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy, where outside of agreed working pattern
  • Can be based anywhere but with extensive travelling

  • £45,720 per annum

Principle Accountabilities

  • Design a consultancy service providing operational and strategic support to organisations across the UK involved in preventing and tackling homelessness
  • Produce a business plan for the service to inform the development of a commercial consultancy offer
  • Undertake market research to identify the extent and type of need for this type of service
  • Identify opportunities to grow the impact of our consultancy services through profitable paid-for consultancy services delivering income to be invested back into resourcing this area and other Crisis services
  • Responsible for the production of an exemplar model of homelessness services which forms the basis of the consultancy offer
  • Design and deliver a ‘mystery shopping’ service for Local Authorities which involves Crisis members
  • As part of the Housing Team to deliver consultancy type services, including training sessions, service reviews, and service redesign

General Accountabilities

  • Design, produce and deliver a service which at all times has homeless peopleas its focus
  • Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
  • Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care to both themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Carry out duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Strong track record of setting up and delivering consultancy services for the benefit of housing and/or homelessness organisations
  2. Experience of producing business plans and providing services intended to generate revenue
  3. Experience of marketing and promotion of consultancy services
  4. Good understanding of existing and proposed homelessness legislation across the UK
  5. Demonstrable knowledge of the issues facing Local Authorities and Housing Associations in their provision of services to homeless people
  6. Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, with differing priorities and motivations
  7. Very strong communication skills (verbal and written) including experience of presenting clear and concise information in an appropriate format for a range of audiences
  8. Experience of managing budgets and billing processes
  9. Experience of successfully managing staff and projects
  10. Proven organisational skills including an ability to prioritise, be self-motivated and have good time-management skills
  11. Willingness to travel across the UK on a regular basis
