pontesbury PLANNING AREA
The Pontesbury school place planning area is in the west of the county. It straddles the A458 Welshpool to Shrewsbury route. The main settlements are all villages, which include Pontesbury, Minsterley, Ford, Hanwood, Westbury and Worthen. There is little industry within the area and the main employment is agriculture, although the renowned local hills of the Stiperstones do attract some tourism.
The LA’s robust forecasting models indicate that school capacity exists overall, at both primary and secondary level, to meet the demand in the short, medium and longer term.
The LA’s regular primary and secondary forecasts have been translated into the following charts and tables to help explain the school place planning proposals the LA intends to take forward. Longer term forecasting methods have also been used in order to take account of the level of new housing investment identified in the current Local Plan to 2026

Summary
Forecast numbers in the above charts and tables demonstrate that the Pontesbury school place planning area has sufficient capacity overall, at both primary and secondary level, to meet the demand in the short and medium term. There is a relatively moderate level of local new housing identified for the area in the current Local Plan period and this is not forecast to create capacity pressures at either primary or secondary level. There are therefore no plans at present for additional places at schools in this planning area.
