On Tuesday, June 1, you will write your FINAL essay for Honors English 11! Whoooo hooooooo!

This will be an in-class essay. You will have access to your novel, character chart, notes, etc. Your homework for the weekend is to prepare for writing this essay. Below you will find a number of topics- you should prepare yourself with whichever topic you feel most comfortable. For this assignment you will also be required to include ONE PIECE OF LITERARY CRITICISM from another source. (This source must be reputable- i.e. no Wikipedia or another student’s paper you find online). Check out the OLHS Library Databases- there are EXCELLENT resources for finding critical articles.

My suggestion: Student Shortcuts  Gale group Contemporary Literary Criticism Search Tim O. & TTTC

Print your piece of literary criticism and bring it with you to class on Tuesday. Once you have a topic, you should try and find a piece of criticism that “relates” somehow to your topic.

Essay Topics:

  • Women (role of, place of, lack of)
  • Storytelling
  • Courage
  • Memory
  • Symbolism
  • Postmodernism
  • Gallows Humor (humor that arises from stressful, traumatic, or life threatening situations)
