EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Develops and conducts interpretive programs on natural and cultural resources of the park, area or site.
  • Assists in prescribed burns and other resource management projects.
  • Conducts guided tours and walks.
  • Cleans and maintains park facilities, grounds and vehicles.
  • Performs carpentry, electrical and mechanical repairs.
  • Prepares reports of receipts, visitor contacts, accidents and equipment use.
  • Relocates, controls and/or removes exotic plants and animals.
  • Provides public information and assistance.
  • Resolves complaints from public.
  • Patrols park to prevent wild fires, vandalism and theft and enforces park rules and regulations.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of general methods and techniques used in the repair and/or maintenance of park facilities, sites, equipment and/or grounds.
  • Knowledge of basic math computations.
  • Skill in using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Skill in maintenance of facilities and/or grounds.
  • Skill in the operation and use of various kinds of equipment including pumper-trucks, tractors and/or boats.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and maintain park facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Ability to identify and investigate problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules and regulations.
  • Ability to provide visitor assistance services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and one year of work experience in a skilled trade or in public contact work.
  • College education from an accredited college or university can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year o
