1 - Assessment of Data Discrepancies between National and International Sources and Possible Solutions in the African Region: Study cases of Uganda and Ethiopia (August, 2008)

This study consisted of an in-depth review of data availability for each MDG indicator at the national level in the two countries as compared with the information available in the global MDG database; identification of potential sources of discrepancies between the two sources; and proposal for potential remedial measures for the conciliation of national versus international data on MDGs, with emphasize on the responsibility of all the principal stakeholders: IAEG, Governments, NSOs and the NSS, UN agencies, and ECA.

2- Toward the Improvement of MDG Reporting: Assessment of data discrepancies between national and international sources and possible solutions: The African Region Report (September, 2008)

This paper is a summary of the conclusions of ECA’s studies on assessment of data discrepancies between national and international sources and possible solutions in some African countries. It has been the contribution of ECA to the joint publication of the five UN Regional Commissions (See bullet 4)

3- Réconciliation des données nationales et internationales sur des indicateurs des OMD : Sources potentielles des anomalies et des mesures réparatrices: Cas du Sénégal(Octobre, 2008)

This study presents an overview of possible causes for data gaps and discrepancies in Senegal and then looks into data sources, their management and the extent of data gaps and discrepancies, and it finally winds up with possible remedial measures.

4- Towards improving MDG reporting: assessment of data discrepancies between national and international sources and possible solutions (October, 2008)

This paper is a joint publication of the five UN Regional Commissions. It describes data discrepancies between national and international sources, identifies the main causes of these Problems and provides recommendations on actions to be undertaken by all stakeholders to address these inconsistencies.

5 - Réconciliation des données nationales et internationales sur des indicateurs des OMD : Sources potentielles des anomalies et des mesures réparatrices. Le cas du Burkina Faso (Février, 2009)

This study presents an overview of possible causes for data gaps and discrepancies in Burkina faso and then looks into data sources, their management and the extent of data gaps and discrepancies, and it finally winds up with possible remedial measures.

5 - Framework for Improving MDG Data Quality, Availability and Reporting (February (2009)

In an effort to seek solutions for problems of data discrepancy and data gap in African countries, the African development Bank has financed this study, in the framework of the working group on Development Indicators (AGDI) and the African Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (AfDB, AUC and ECA). The study consists to prepare a concept note, including a detailed programme of work aimed at improving the capacity of African countries to report on MDGs for the period 2009-2010. The study identify the possible causes of the problems, proposes strategies to address the MDG data problems. It proposes also possible Inputs from Major Stakeholders and an implementation plan, and then highlights possible obstacles to the implementation.
