Inverness Regatta Weekend 11th & 12th November 2017 – Important Advance Marshalling Information
Could all competitors and club officials please ensure they have read and understood the following.
Due to the size of entry and potential adverse (windy) weather conditions, the regatta organisers are splitting each division into 2 starts. As in 2016, the start of Division 2 each day has been delayed by 1/2 hour to 14:30 on Saturday and 14:00 on Sunday.
Because of maintenance work being carried out by Scottish Canals, the city bank is out of bounds to all visiting clubs. Inverness Rowing Club have permission for a limited number of marshalls and umpires to make use of the city bank and all other personnel (spectators and coaches) must use the boathouse bank for walking or cycling along the course.
All Novice and J15 or under crews will start racing along the “Beeches Straight” (Shorter course) approximately 15 minutes ahead of the remaining crews, who will start on the at the usual place on DochgarrochStraight (Longer Course).
To facilitate this start crewswill launch in the following order
Group 1 - Fours and Quads: J16 and older plus R2, R1, Open and Vet crews
Group 2 -Doubles, Pairs and Singles: J16 and older plus R2, R1, Open and Vet crews
Group 3 -Doubles and Singles: Novice, J15 and younger crews
Group 4- Fours and Quads: Novice, J15 and younger crews

Please refer to for a map of the course.
All “Group 1 and Group 2” crews must ensure they are in the DochgarrochStraight, above the safety boat, 15 minutes before the start of each division. All crews in “Group 3 and Group 4” must have passed the Shorter start line 15 minutes before the start of each division.
These times are 11:15 (Sat Div 1), 14:15 (Sat Div 2), 10:45 (Sun Div 1) and 13:45 (Sun Div2). If any crew fails to meet these deadlines, they will delay the start for all racing and crews will incur time penalties.
Marshalls will be on the banks to direct crews to their correct location. Crews should remain facing towards the Dochgarroch locks and must not turn until directed to do so by a marshall.
Bow Numbers MUST be displayed on the back of the BOW person for Identification from the bank.
The Start will take place as soon as the crews are in a rough numeric order for starting in their racing categories and it is deemed safe to do so.
The Second start will take place as soon as the Safety boat following the first race has reached Kennels.
In the Event of Novice Crews stopping /capsizing – they should be directed to the nearest side of the canal until assistance can reach them. Marshals/umpires will be required to advise the following crews of any obstacles.
SR Umpires will be in place on the banks to ensure that safe and fair racing takes place over the weekend – we are extremely grateful to these volunteers.
Volunteers Needed
In order to ensure safety and help the efficient running of the event, we are looking for up to 10 volunteers in each division to help with
