Here is the latest news and information from the Historic 1916Buffalo High Schoollocated at 303 Pearl Streetin Buffalo, North Dakota. The school became the property of the Buffalo Historical Society in 2001 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Properties.

With the beginning of a new year we continue to explore the possibilities of showcasing the school’s past, present and future. We know that 2018 will be filled with many good things, but will also stay connected to our past. As we look back through the history of our school, it seems appropriate to reviewclasses celebrating significant milestones.

In the fall of 1916, fifteen little 6 year olds were greeted by their first grade teacher who would teach the ABC’s as well as the English language since Norwegian was still used in many homes. A class of nine would return as mighty seniors, taking their place in the fourth row in the high school assembly, ready to celebrate their graduation in 1928.

There were fifteen seniors who graduated in 1938, including Harvey Coon, who continues to live on his farm just south of Buffalo. His class was the first to hold their commencement in the new auditorium which was the latest addition to the school.

During their senior year, the nine members of the graduating class of 1948 had Mrs. Sally Hanson as one of their teachers. Her time at Buffalo High School was limited to just two years, but her impact is still important today. Her daughter, Shelley, who lives in Georgia, connected with us a few years ago and continues to support the school on her visits to North Dakota every year.

The Buffalo High School Class of 1958 was again a smaller class of nine. In the class history, they recall looking sharp in the blue and white band uniforms, wearing saddle shoes, penny loafers or white bucks, pretending their angora sweaters were cashmere, and starching their can-cans for the proper look. Their class motto,Through Education Comes Success, still rings true today.

This summer at our Annual High School Homecoming, the twenty two graduates from 1968 will celebrate their 50th Class Reunion. We remember the homecoming activities during their senior year when Jennifer Kringler was the Homecoming Queen and Penny Pollock and Connie Kaim were her attendants. They enjoyed a bonfire, pep rally and an exciting football game against the Tower City Clams. We know this fun-loving class will celebrate together in July and reminisce about the good times during their school days.

A beautiful winter wedding will take place this Saturday at the Historic 1916 Buffalo High School. We want to congratulation the bride and the groom, who is a1978graduate. This very special event demonstrates how our old schoolstill connects the past to the present to the future.
