1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Specifier note: Higher test results may be achieved using high performance options and/or smaller sizes. Specific testing is dependent upon size and options. For further information contact your Weather Shield territory manager.
A. Design and Performance Requirements:
1. French sliding patio door units shall comply with ANSI/AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S. 2-97:

2. Air infiltration shall not exceed 0.30 cfm/ft2 (0.142 L/s•m2) when tested according to ASTM E283.
3. No water penetration when tested at the following pressure according to ASTM E547:

4. French sliding patio door must withstand the following positive/negative structural test pressure without damage when tested according to ASTM E330:

1.5 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
A. Shop drawings: submit shop drawings according to Section 01 33 23 – Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples.
B. Product data: submit manufacturer's product catalog data and installation guides.
C. Samples: submit samples including the following:
1. Corner cutaway: submit corner cutaway, including glazing system, quality of construction and specified exterior/interior finishes.
2. Exterior: submit color samples of exterior color finishes.
3. Hardware: submit samples indicating typical hardware finishes.
D. Quality control reporting: submit manufacturer’s test results reported by independent laboratory indicating compliance with specified performance and design requirements, as listed in 1.4 Performance Requirements, according to Section 01 33 26 – Source Quality Control Reporting.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Single Source Responsibility: Except for hardware mechanisms, aluminum extrusions, fiberglass sill and most weather stripping, the door manufacturer is responsible for fabrication of all components and materials including treatment of wood with acceptable wood preservatives, millwork of door panel and frame members, assembly of insulating glass and manufacture of all panels and frames.
1.7 PRODUCT DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS
A. Comply with the product delivery requirements specified in Section 01 65 00 - Product Delivery Requirements.
1.8 PRODUCT STORAGE AND HANDLING REQUIREMENTS
A. Comply with the requirements for storage and handling of products as specified in Section 01 66 00 – Product Storage and Handling Requirements.
B. Store doors in a dry location, off the ground, under cover, protected from weather and construction activities.
1.9 WARRANTIES
A. Workmanship and materials: 20-year limited warranty.
B. Insulating glass: 20-year limited warranty.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURED UNITS
A. Weather Shield® Aluminum Clad Exterior / Wood Interior French Sliding Patio Doors as manufactured by Weather Shield Mfg., Inc. of Medford, Wisconsin.
2.2 ALUMINUM CLAD EXTERIOR / WOOD INTERIOR FRENCH SLIDING PATIO DOOR MATERIALS
A. Frame:
1. Exterior frame members milled from pine, kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with a water-repellent preservative. Frame corners shall be rabbeted, butted, chemically and mechanically fastened. The frame includes solid one-piece head and side jambs with applied inside stops at head and side jambs, and mechanically fastened.
2. Frame is clad with .050” [1.3mm] thick extruded aluminum, with an integral extruded nailing fin. Top corners shall be mitered, include internal aluminum corner keys, chemically and mechanically fastened.
3. Interior frame materials to be milled from [pine (standard)] [oak] [cherry] [maple] [mahogany] [American fir] [character alder], kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with a water-repellent preservative.
4. One-piece, gray pultruded fiberglass sill with interior hardwood sill riser; sill height of 1-9/16” [40mm]. Option: [high-performance 2” [51mm] interior hardwood sill riser].
5. Side jamb thickness 1-1/16” [27mm]; head jamb thickness 1-1/16” [27mm].
6. Frame shall have standard jamb depth of 4-9/16” [116mm].
7. Option: Frame provided with jamb extensions up to and including 12” [305mm] overall jamb depth [shipped loose (standard)] [factory applied]. Jamb extensions match interior frame finish.
B. Door Panel:
1. Panel shall be composed of two materials, extruded aluminum exterior stiles and top rail of .050” [1.3mm] minimum thickness and bottom rail of .080” [2mm] minimum thickness, chemically and mechanically bonded to the interior wood substrate. Interior door panel corners shall be chemically and mechanically fastened with hardwood dowels.
2. Interior door panel materials shall be milled from [pine (standard)] [oak] [cherry] [maple] [mahogany] [American fir] [character alder], kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with a water-repellent preservative.
3. As viewed from exterior, top rail shall be 5” [127mm] high; bottom rail shall be 7-1/2” [191mm] high; stiles shall be 5-1/4” [133mm] wide.
4. Panel shall be 1-3/4” [44mm] thick.
5. Available in one, two, three and four-panel configurations.
6. Option: [raised panel]
a. [One panel] [two panels] shall be two MDF core panels consisting of an exterior and interior panel, glazed into door panel with flush glazing bead.
b. Raised panel doors shall include 5-3/16” [132mm] center rail.
c. Exterior raised panel shall be prefinished to match exterior door panel color.
d. Interior raised panel wood species to match interior door panel.
e. Raised panel thickness shall be minimum 1-7/16” [37mm].
C. Finish:
1. Exterior aluminum finish: low gloss, two-component acrylic polyurethane enamel; meets or exceeds AAMA 2603 requirements. [Optional: fluoropolymer-modified acrylic topcoat over fluoropolymer primer meets AAMA 2605 requirements.] Colors: [white] [cameo] [desert tan] [western adobe] [hartford green] [obsidian] [craftsman bronze] [brick red] [47 designer colors] [custom color as selected by the Architect].

5. All provisions of this section shall conform to requirements of Section 08 71 00 – Door Hardware.
F. Weather Stripping:
1. Flexible tan leaf weather strip at head and active panel inside stop.
2. White pile weather strip with mylar fin at head and side tan vinyl parting stops.
3. Rigid tan vinyl interlocks with tan vinyl bulb weather strip on inactive panel interlock and beige pile weather strip on active panel interlock.
4. Black pile weather strip on sill for active panel.
G. Sliding Screen Doors:
1. Sliding screen consisting of .045” [1.1mm] thick formed aluminum frames with baked-on acrylic coating, mitered frame corners and 18x16 [charcoal fiberglass (standard)] [black aluminum non-glare] mesh.
2. Adjustable ball-bearing [steel (standard)] [stainless steel] rollers at head and sill.
3. Frame finish: matches exterior door frame.
H. High-Performance Option:
1. 2” [51mm] interior hardwood sill riser.

I. Retractable Screens:
1. Retractable screen shall consist of [one (for two- and three-panel doors)] [two (for four-panel doors)] aluminum cassette housing(s) with baked-on acrylic coating and 18x14 pvc-coated, charcoal fiberglass screen cloth.
2. Retractable screens for two- and three-panel doors shall include a mechanical latch to hold screen in closed position; retractable screens for four-panel doors shall include a full-length magnetic latch.
3. Screen handle is white on white screen housing; black handle on all other screen housing finishes.
4. Retractable screen shall be shipped loose.
5. Screen housing finish: matches exterior frame/door panel.
J. Interior Removable Grilles:
1. Full perimeter wood grilles with no exposed fastening devices: [5/8” (16mm) traditional] [7/8” (22mm) colonial] [1-3/8” (35mm) colonial].
