Fire Department HiringRequirements
The Mustang Fire department is comprised of both career and volunteer firefighters. Volunteer Applications may be downloaded from this website (click on “Forms and Permits” from the homepage) or picked up in person at the Fire Department located at 456 W. Highway 152. Career (full time) firefighters are hired from alist maintained by Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center located at 4601 N. Choctaw Road in Choctaw, Oklahoma.EOCTCadministers a written and physical test to applicants from which participatingmunicipalitiesare able to select qualified candidates to interview. Minimum Requirements for ALL MEMBERS:
· Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, and shall not have reached 45 years of age.
· Must be a high school graduate or approved equivalent.
· Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
Minimum Requirements for CAREER MEMBERS:
In addition to the requirements listed in Section 1-1, the following requirements apply to career members of the Mustang Fire Department:
· Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform all required job functions and successfully complete a minimum physical/agility test as set forth by the City of Mustang and the Oklahoma State Firefighters Pension and Retirement System.
· Must reside within a reasonable distance from the Mustang Fire Department, as determined by the Fire Chief.
· Must certify as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) within the first year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment with the City of Mustang Fire Department.
· Must obtain Firefighter I (IFSAC certificate) within the first year of employment.
Minimum Requirements for VOLUNTEER MEMBERS:
In addition to the requirements listed in Section 1-1, the following requirements apply to volunteer members of the Mustang Fire Department:
· Must live within a 5-mile radius of the intersection of SH 152 and Mustang Road, Mustang, Oklahoma.
· Must obtain Firefighter I (IFSAC certificate) or successfully complete Structural Firefighter (OSU-FST) courses within the first two (2) years of employment.
