CONVENIENTLY LOCATED

The Elgin Chamber of Commerce is conveniently located on MainStreetin Downtown Elgin. We are a local information resource center.There is a Community Room at our location, available by appointment for Chamber Member’s, which seats approximately 25.

BUSINESS REFERRALS

The Chamber receives many phone calls, e-mails, and written requests for information on local businesses and the products and services that are available in the Elgin area. We always recommend our Chamber Members first.We carry brochures, business cards, magazines, maps, and other tourist and Chamber Member promotional items for our in-office visitors and for our outgoing information mailer packages.

NEW BUSINESS NETWORK

Chamber Members receive an additional advantage due to the fact that they get to meet and network with other local business people for fellowship, entertainment, information exchange, and in-Chamber-referrals. We have monthly luncheon meetings and yearly Business After Hour events.

PUBLICITY AND EXPOSURE

Our tourism and events promotions, which are on our Chamber Website, bring people into our community each year. These visitorsare our Chamber Members’ prospective customers and the events offer an increased exposure for Chamber Members and their businesses. We also have a tourist and business information booth at events for visitors and future and new residents to receive tourist and Chamber Members’ information.When a Chamber Member, visitor, future or new resident needs help, we do our part to assist them.

LOCAL BUYING KEEPS JOBS

The Elgin Chamber of Commerce promotes and works to keep money circulating locally within our community and Chamber Members there-by increasing revenue employment and development.

The Chamber provides Chamber Members information through e-mail, news releases, meetings, and Business After Hours events, upcoming events, and special mailings.

The Chamber is the voice of the business community to local government, and on the state and national level, it is constantly working to develop a better climate for doing business.

Listed below are the available committees, comprised of volunteers from Chamber Members. Please let us know if you are interested in participating with any of these committees. Whether you donate time, ideas, items, or other, your input is greatly appreciated.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for member recruitment and retention by planning networking opportunities for members such as business after hours, membership lunch, quarterly breakfast meetings and Business Expo. The membership committee will work with the Community Development Committee to develop member services and an information handout to explain to businesses the benefits for being a chamber member.

TOURISM COMMITTEE

The Tourism Committee is responsible for organizing events to promote Elgin. Committee will publish the visitor’s guide, maps and other brochures to promote Elgin (BBQ Trail Brochure, Festivals of Central Texas Brochure, etc.). The committee coordinates tours to promote Elgin. The tourism committee also overseas the kiosk program that promote local businesses. This committee will continue to actively participate in The Texas Independence Trail, Bastrop County Tourism Group, Central Texas Tourism Group. Over the next year, the focus of this committee will be on reviewing and evaluating existing materials and distribution systems to better market Elgin. This effort will include an aggressive outreach to Austin residents, as well as regional leisure and business travelers.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE

The Special Events Committee is responsible for planning and organizing the major fundraising events for the Chamber: Western Days Festival and the Annual Awards Banquet, and participating in other local events sponsored by other entities. The members of this team coordinate with the Tourism Committee on planning Christmas activities, and operate a beverage booth at the Hogeye Festival. Over the next few years, the overriding goal for the Special Events Committee will be to increase revenues annually for each event the Chamber participates, with emphasis on growing Western Days. This will be accomplished by aggressive marketing of the events, identifying sponsorship and partners, and identifying additional opportunities for income at events.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The members of this team organize and implement community development projects to enhance the community’s quality of life, retain and create jobs. The Community Development Committee works with the City’s Economic Development Director to recruit new businesses to Elgin and works with Elgin ISD. A focus of this committee has been and will continue to be recruiting medical professionals and facilities to Elgin. During the legislative sessions, this committee is responsible for coordinating the Leadership Elgin Program. This program has not been conducted in a few years, and will be revisited to recruit new candidates this year. Additional new activities for the Community Development Committee will include development of member services related to business education – formally under the Education Committee.
