JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide the staff leadership for a community collaboration which brings together leaders from business, health, education, labour, government, faith and cultural groups, as well as ECD service providers and others, in order to effect positive change in the healthy growth, development and learning of young children (0-6years) and their families. Success By 6®, through its Council of Partners, builds community by engaging citizens in early childhood development and by funding strategies that strengthen services for young children and families. The Coordinator supports the Council of Partners in the development and implementation of Success By 6® activities: including community research, strategic planning, public awareness-raising, fund-raising, fund allocation and evaluation.

Success By 6® Coordinator Duties/Deliverables:

  • Work with the Lead Partners (United Way, MCFD and the participating credit unions) to identify and recruit leaders from business, education, labour, government, faith and cultural groups as well as health and ECD service providers for the Council of Partners
  • Support the development of the Success By 6® Council of Partners, including helping to determine terms of reference, working protocols, policy development, and planning. Ensure arrangements for meetings, agendas, and minutes are provided. Develop draft recommendations for Council consideration as required. Implement decisions of the Council of Partners. Liaise with the Council Chairperson, other Lead Partners and Executive members
  • Build and sustain partnerships that maximize the ability of Success By 6® to achieve its mission. This responsibility includes supporting the Success By 6® working committees and collaborating with other local ECD initiatives and networks
  • Work with key ECD stakeholders, to ensure that the necessary community research is undertaken to support the development of a community ECD strategic plan and to facilitate an identification of potential Success By 6® priority areas
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities to enhance the Success By 6® initiative's goals and objectives, both individually and in cooperation with other initiatives
  • Develop Requests for Proposals and/or grant applications, administer grants, and evaluate the impact of approved projects, programs or services
  • Promote public awareness of Success By 6® and the importance of early childhood development
  • Work cooperatively with the province-wide network of Success By 6® initiatives and the provincial network of Early Childhood initiatives, such as Make Children First
  • Liaise with the Success By 6® Provincial Team and ensure reports are submitted to the ECD Provincial Partnership as required.

Qualifications:

  • Self-starter, with strong organizational skills, and ability to handle several tasks concurrently
  • Strong commitment to Early Childhood Development essential; a knowledge of the policy and funding context of ECD in British Columbia preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience in building grassroots coalitions, collaborations and partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience in coordination and management of diverse projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including public relations and public speaking skills
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with staff, volunteers, local employers and businesses
  • Knowledgeable and efficient with computers, and willing to learn a variety of programs
  • Ability to work as part of a team and promote and support the goals and objectives of the organization
  • Previous experience in leading and working in a non-profit environment preferred
  • Previous fundraising, grant proposal writing, marketing and media experience preferred
  • Previous experience in data collection, community mapping and needs assessment processes would be valuable
