R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Terry High School Lady Rangers basketball team performed exceptionally well during the 19921993 campaign, posting a perfect 250 record during the regular season and competing at the highest level in the University Interscholastic League 5A girls' basketball playoffs; and

WHEREAS, Having earned a bye in the first round of the postseason tournament, the UIL District 175A champions endured a 10day layoff between the last game of their regular season and their first playoff game, an area matchup against Jersey Village High School; despite the prolonged layoff, the Lady Rangers regained their seasonlong sharpness in the second half of this contest to prevail 5239 over the Jersey Village squad; and

WHEREAS, This victory set up a regional quarterfinal rematch against Houston Yates High School, the team that had ousted the Lady Rangers from the playoffs the previous year; determined to keep history from repeating itself, this exceptional Terry team triumphed over the Yates Lady Lions 4841; and

WHEREAS, Although the Lady Rangers sustained their only loss of the season in the regional semifinals to an outstanding Aldine Nimitz High School team, they nevertheless can look back with considerable pride at their many superb achievements during the 19921993 campaign; and

WHEREAS, The season's many accomplishments were a result of a total team effort and selfless contributions from members Danielle Cordaway, Brandy Nava, Molly Durkin, Denise Pittman, Latisha Jackson, Nettie Respondek, Madeline Pizzo, Amberlea Bean, Tracy Gonzalez, Bareka Piper, and Rosetta Williams; and

WHEREAS, Although each team member was a significant factor in the team's overall success, several Lady Rangers also attained welldeserved individual honors:Nettie Respondek was named the most valuable player in District 175A and in the greater Houston area and was also named to the first team AllState squad, Danielle Cordaway and Denise Pittman earned first team AllDistrict honors, Molly Durkin was selected to the second team AllDistrict squad, and Amberlea Bean was tabbed honorable mention AllDistrict; and

WHEREAS, Head coach Carol Whileyman, who was ultimately voted Coach of the Year by the coaches of District 175A, provided tireless leadership and inspiration, honing her charges' athletic skills and instilling in them an unquenchable will to win, and she was ably supported by assistant coaches Jan Payne and Darol Hail; and

WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young women and their coaches and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students and faculty at Terry High School and for their many supporters in the community, and their exceptional accomplishments rightfully have earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Carol Whileyman and the Terry High School Lady Rangers on their superb 19921993 basketball campaign and extend to them best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared for prominent display at Terry High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
