Route & Rules

Both the 5k & the 10k will start on the upper esplanade, almost directly opposite Pittodrie Stadium and runners will begin by running in the direction towards the Beach Ballroom. 5k runners will do the route along the esplanade once, with 10k runners completing it twice. The finish will be on the lower esplanade, where the registration/warm-up area is located.

This is a flat course on tarmac paths but it can be very windy due to the location! Route marshals will be in place on the route to direct and assist if needed.

Please remember that the route uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other path users. This won’t hurt your time, it won’t stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event. Please also remember to watch out for cyclists.

If you wish to change distances on the day, please ensure you let our staff know at the registration desk as we will need to give you a different coloured running number.

Things to remember:

  • Wear your running number on your front and write your emergency details on the back of it. Don’t swap numbers. You should have received your running number with this pack – call us if not!
  • Please wear your Stroke Association running t-shirt / vest! Keep the weather in mind though – you might want to wear this over a long sleeved top.
  • As for your feet, wear appropriate running shoes and wear what you’ll be comfortable in.

Marshals will be in position on the route and will assist if needed – please follow their guidance.

Please show respect to other park users and watch out for cyclists.

  • No alcohol or illegal drugs should be consumed before or during the event.
  • Please ensure any children with you are supervised at all times.
  • This is a fun run – so please remember to enjoy yourself!

Timing:

There will be a timing clock at the finish line so if you want to know your time please ensure you make a note of it when you finish or bring along your own timing watch. We will be unable to publish results after the event.

Bag Drop:

A bag drop will be available to all runners. Bags can be left at a fully attended bag drop area beside the registration desk (only one bag per runner please). Please be aware that whilst the bag drop will be staffed at all times, it is used at your own risk and you may prefer to leave your bag with you friends/family who have accompanied you. The Stroke Association will not take responsibility for any lost items so please do not leave any valuables in your bag at the bag drop.

Post Run:

After the run you will be given a medal to mark your achievement as well as a goody bag with water and some other goodies!

Fundraising

Please bring your sponsorship money with you on the day. Enclosed in this pack is a sponsorship/donation envelope to bring with you to the registration desk, with your money enclosed. Please ensure cheques are made payable to ‘Stroke Association’. (cheques are best for us!)

If you have additional sponsorship to send in after the event then send to Stroke Association, Links House, 15 Links Place, Edinburgh, EH6 7EZ ideally by Tuesday 3 May.

Remember to check sponsors have filled in their home address with the postcode and ticked the Gift Aid box if they’re UK taxpayers. This means we can claim a further 25p back on each £1 they donate.

As you know, the registration fee you’ve paid goes towards the cost of running the event so all of the sponsorship money raised goes towards helping people affected by stroke and supporting their families. If you’ve decided not to collect sponsorship, we’ve enclosed a donation envelope in the hope that you might be able to give a donation towards the charity.

Thank you for taking part – we look forward to meeting you.

Remember this is a fun run, so we hope you enjoy it!
