TRANSFER CENTER
The District has a transfer center plan that complies with the requirements of Title 5. The plan identifies appropriate target student populations and is designed to increase the transfer applications of underrepresented students among transfer students.
Plan components include, but are not limited to:
1. Services to be provided to students
2. Facilities
3. Staffing
4. An advisory committee
5. Evaluation and reporting
6. Transfer path requirements for each articulated baccalaureate major
The plan is maintained by the Transfer Center Counselor/Coordinator who, with the Transfer Counselor, is responsible for its implementation.
The District has a Transfer Center Plan that is maintained and updated by the Transfer and Career Center Counselor/Coordinator and complies with the requirements of Title 5. The Transfer Center Plan is designed to increase knowledge of transfer requirements and improve transfer preparedness among current, prospective and underrepresented students. The District incorporates as part of its mission the transfer of its students to baccalaureate level institutions.
Plan components include, but are not limited to:
(A) Services to be provided to students:
a. Counseling and advising services will be provided to students to assist with exploring potential majors and careers and providing information about the application and transfer process to a four-year college or university.
b. In addition, services and activities offered will include a college catalog and reference library, on-line access to transfer information websites, transfer information workshops, access to outreach counselors from four-year institutions, and information dissemination activities, individual counseling appointments with university representatives, and an annual college transfer fair.
(B) Facilities
a. The District will provide space to house the Transfer and Career Center in addition to the Counseling Center to ensure a seamless and integrated relationship between the three service areas. The Transfer and Career Center will have computer and research space provided to students, faculty and staff.
(C) Staffing
a. The Center will be staffed, at a minimum by a Transfer and Career Counselor/Coordinator and Classified support staff.
(D) An advisory work group
a. The Transfer and Career Center Advisory Work Group will meet, at minimum, once per semester and consist of appropriate faculty from the District, outreach staff from partner four-year institutions, and community members.
(E) Evaluation and reporting
a. Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, the Transfer and Career Center Counselor/Coordinator, will be responsible for developing the Transfer Center Plan and completing the Transfer Center Annual Report to the California Community College Chancellors’ Office.
b. Internal tracking databases, such as SARS/EIS, will be used to track students for evaluation/data purposes.
Career Counseling (keep title underlined)
Students shall be assisted in assessing their abilities and interests, as well as current and future employment trends in fields in which they have an interest. To supplement counseling by the counseling faculty, Educational and Career Planning and Cooperative Work Experience classes shall emphasize career planning.
