Mrs. Fontes’ Discipline Plan

2017-2018

Dear Parents & Guardians,

It is a pleasure to have your child in my classroom this year. I know that his/her year will be filled with many memorable experiences. To promote an orderly and stimulating environment, your child will be required to follow our classroom rules at all times.

Discipline is an important part of education. Consequently, it will be my responsibility to teach and reinforce the rules developed for my classroom. However, it is the parent’s responsibility to support proper classroom behavior. Listed below, is a copy of the classroom rules.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Students will keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.
  2. Students will ask for permission before they leave the classroom.
  3. Students will listen and follow the teacher’s directions.
  4. Students will be kind and respectful.
  5. Students will raise their hand if they want to talk during instructional time.

As a part of my discipline plan, students will receive positive reinforcements when they do their best work. Below is a list of some of the positive reinforcements your child will receive when they demonstrate desirable behaviors.

Positive Reinforcements:

  1. Verbal praise
  2. Indirect social rewards (thumbs-up, high –five)
  3. Behavior awards ( P.R.O., S.O.M., PAWS tickets, treasure box, stickers)
  4. Move your clip up on the behavior chart.

On the other hand, students will receive consequences when they choose to break any of the classroom or school rules. These consequences will be administered as needed.

Consequences:Moving your clip down

White -- Warning

Yellow -- Teacher’s choice (ex. lose 5 minutes of recess)

Red -- Time – out and you take home a behavior notice. This notice needs to be signed by the parent or guardian and returned thenext school day.

*In case of severe problems, that child will receive a referral to the principal.

I realize that parents and teachers need to work together in order to help our students learn good behavior. Therefore, feel free to call or visit me at school if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Fontes

Mrs. Fontes’ Homework Policy

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Education is a joint venture between parents and teachers. I believe that completing your child homework on a weekly basis is essential to your child’s success in school and in life. Completing homework promotes responsibility, study habits, a strong desire to learn, and it reinforces essential skills taught in the classroom.

One of the most important skills addressed in your child’s homework is their list of sight words/ fry words. During first grade, students are expected to become independent readers. However, this is almost impossible if your child does not master their kindergarten and first grade sight words/fry words. Consequently, this is a standard that must be addressed every day in school as well as at home. I can assure you that we will address it in the classroom on a daily basis, but I still need your support throughout the year.

In addition to your child’s list of sight words, your child will be expected to practice math skills such as addition, and subtraction. I expect that your child should spend approximately 60 minutes per day on their homework. Periodically, I will assign projects that need to be completed as a family. I will notify you when these projects are due.

Typically, I send homework out on Friday and collect the homework on Thursday. I expect your child’s homework to be returned inside a folder. I will provide a folder at the beginning of the year. However, it is the parent’s responsibility to make sure that your child has a homework folder for the remainder of the year.

If your child is spending considerably more time on their homework each night, then please let me know ASAP.

Thank you for all your support,

Mrs. Fontes
